General Tsao's Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
I thought this recipe was pretty good. It had a sweet flavor to it, not really spicy. I used regular salt instead of MSG and did not have ginger on hand. I did not deep fry it, just pan fry. Other than that, I followed the recipe. Very good, thanks!

Bourbon Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2009
I just made this recipe (the first time ever making bbq sauce) and it is pretty good. It has a zesty flavor to it. I did make a couple of changes only because I didn't have everything it called for. I used white wine vinegar instead of cider vinegar, regular JD whiskey, and no liquid smoke. I added diced peaches to it for a recipe I have and it is really tasty. It tastes so familiar but neither hubby nor I can figure it out, either way- its good! Thanks for the recipe.

Honey Wheat Bread II

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
Very good wheat bread recipe. I halved the recipe and changed only the amounts of each flour. 1/12 cups wheat and 2 cups white. I think I will add more honey next time as it really didn't have much of a flavor, it had a fresh taste though. Thanks for the recipe.

Fluffy Peanut Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
This by far is one of the best frosting/icing recipes I have made. I can never get them to turn out right. I followed the recipe like it said and let it whip on high speed on my Kitchen Aide for a good 3-5 minutes. It is very tasty, even the dogs agree! (i let them lick the whip!) I am now waiting for the brownies to get done baking so I can try it on them. Thanks for a great recipe. *UPDATE* So yummy on the brownies! I had quite a bit left over so I put it on sliced apples. I always like peanut butter and apples for a snack, but this was even better.

Pizza On The Grill I

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2009
I probably shouldn't review this yet since I didn't follow the directions exactly. I was impatient, hungry and have been trying to make this for a week now but haven't had the time it needs. After I let the yeast mixture rest I put all dough ingredients in the mixer plus garlic and basil and let go for 5 minutes. Then tried to knead it but it was way to stiff so I let it proof for 1 hour. It was fairly pliable after that so I stretched it out in a 13x9 pan, well oiled both sides of dough and put it on the grill (without the pan of course). It came out really thick, between 1/2 and 3/4 inch thick. Topped with my own sauce and some mozzarella/parm mixture. It was decent but not great. I like a thinner crust anyways. So if anybody else is impatient like myself-please do not do it this way. Take the time and follow the recipe. I will try this again in the next few days and follow the recipe all the way. It's got to be great with all of the 5stars it has received.

Italian Love Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
This was by far one of the best cakes I have ever had. I made it for my mother inlaw and my boss's birthdays this week and they were both amazed by it. (my boss is a baker!) I made the first cake with Pillsbury (we use it at work) and then read the rest of the reviews while it was in the oven and found out NOT to use it because of the pudding in the mix. I then called my husband and had him get me Duncan Hines and made the 2nd one with it and it turned out perfect. Granted, they tasted the same, but the Pillsbury didn't set the way the Duncan did. I am fortunate enough to work in a bakery and have access to cake boards and plastic collars to make "decorating" it easier. Since the cake rose real high in the pan, I couldn't really put the mousse on top of it so I put the collar around the cake and was able to do it that way. Sorry for the long review! Amazing recipe, will definitely use again and already have requests for upcoming bdays and anniversary's!

Balsamic Bruschetta

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2009
WOW! This was an awesome recipe. I have been looking for a great bruschetta recipe and this one is it! I followed it exactly, except for reading some of the reviews, did not add the parm yet. My hubby and I sampled it (we are taking it to the inlaws for dinner tomorrow) and we had to put it away because we kept taking "one more bite"! Thanks for the great recipe!

Chicken Lo Mein

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2009
It was okay, I didn't think it tasted much like Lo Mein from the restaurants. I did use whole grain spaghetti and cube steak instead of chicken. It had flavor but wasn't very flavorful at the same time. Does that even make sense? Not a bad meal, but now I have a lot of it that we probably won't finish.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
These are really good Au Gratin potatoes. I made them for the first time a few months ago following the recipe exactly. I made one change thought tonight- I made them on the stove-top. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but it turned out great! All I did was, in a large pan saute the onion with some minced garlic, add the thinly sliced potatoes and fry them for a few minutes at medium heat. In a small bowl I melted the butter in the microwave and then added the flour. I stirred that into the pan and slowly added the milk. Once it was all heated I added the cheese, stirred it and let simmer for about 20 minutes. I scaled the recipe down to half because it's only my husband and I. It was just a quick way to do the potatoes.

Four Cheese Macaroni Casserole

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
I did change it a little, just because of what I had on hand. I mixed some Spicy Spaghetti seasoning and a teaspoon of sugar in with a can of diced Italian tomatoes and used shakable parmesan cheese along with colby-jack and it was so delicious and simple. Our new favorite comfort dinner! Thanks for the recipe.

No-Fuss Cinnamon Cheesecake

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
I just made this today, but did it a little different because I didn't have the crescent dough. I followed the recipe and then poured it into a graham cracker crust, baked it and put it in the fridge. I then made the One Minute Chocolate Icing from this site and poured it on top of the cooled cheesecake and then put it in the freezer for 10 minutes to firm up the icing. It was to die for! I thought it was anyways. I make the icing more chocolaty than sweet which goes better with the already sweet cheesecake. Thanks for a super easy cheesecake recipe!

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: May 23, 2009
Delicious frosting. The consistence was still a little to thin to do much decorating with, but the flavor was fabulous. *UPDATE* I just made a lemon cookie with powdered sugar coating and sandwiched the cream cheese icing between two cookies. It was awesome!

Crab Rangoon III

Reviewed: May 23, 2009
These tasted a lot like the ones I get from my fav Chinese place. My ONLY complaint was that by the time you fried them most of the filling spilled out or was mush. I think you may need a higher oil temp to fry them so it doesn't mush the insides. Otherwise, really tasty recipe.

This was an awesome recipe! It takes a little effort, zesting the orange and ginger, but it is so worth it in the end. The aroma alone is amazing!

Awesome Egg Rolls

Reviewed: May 23, 2009
These were the most authentic tasting egg rolls I have had in a long time. I made it for my moms b-day and all 20 were gone within minutes, and there was only 5 of us! I used fresh shrimp and chopped it up along with ground pork. I like lots of meat in my egg rolls so it was perfect. Thanks for the best egg roll recipe!

Kung Pao Chicken

Reviewed: May 23, 2009
I made this today for my moms birthday along with a few other Chinese recipes from this site and I must say it was very spicy. I figured it would be, but WOW! I couldn't find regular hot chili paste, but found a garlic chili paste. I think it needed a little more flavor as far as salt or something like that. But overall it turned out nice and smelled so good.

One Minute Chocolate Icing

I just made this to go over a peanut butter bar cake and the consistency was great. It's in the fridge now cooling so I'll wait and see how it sets up. But I licked the spatula and it was so good! I've finally found a rich chocolate icing!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars II

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2009
My husband and I wanted something sweet the other night and of course had nothing in the house. But, we did have the few ingredients to make these wonderfully delicious bars! They were so good, I brought some to work the next day since the recipe made so many and everyone loved them. The only thing I did different was using smaller pan so the bars would be really thick. I would like to figure out next time is how to make them so that when they are room temp the PB isn't so soft. They were perfect out of the fridge, but then the chocolate was hard. Oh well, they were well worth it!
