My favorite family cooking traditions
Our cooking tradition for the past 8-9 years has been frying a turkey for Thanksgiving. My husband has gotten so good at it, that he starts a few days before Thanksgiving to fry all of the "requested" turkeys in our neighborhood. He is THAT good!!! I will never have a baked turkey again!
My cooking triumphs
When my husband & I first married in 1988, I invited his entire family over for a meal that I cooked all by myself. I started early that morning and cooked all day. Everything turned out perfectly. I did not realize until someone mentioned (as a joke) that while everything tasted great, every dish had some sort of cheese. After I looked at my menu, I realized that he was right. I had cooked good several dishes, but they all contained some sort of cheese!!!
My cooking tragedies
When I first got married, I loved to bake, but for some reason, my Sour Cream Pound Cake always had an "airhole" in one side of it. It was not until we moved and I got a new stove that I realized that it was the uneveness of the stove and not me. I have had great pound cakes ever since.
