About this Cook
I am a writer from a big family who loves to read and write about all types of people; what they do, where they go, what they eat, and what it's like where they live. I'm in the process of publishing my first BIG novel. I'll keep posted!
My favorite things to cook
My Husband's favorite is Spaghetti and I like making it for him. He says he never gets tired of it but I do so I like to make other things that are flavored completely different from that. But we often come back to red sauces. My Family favorite is My "Italian Pie", and "Cheesy Chicken Croissants" I love cooking pig pots of foods that feed groups, like Soups, Chilly, Gumbo, Jambalaya...stuff like that.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My daughter gave me a sign to hang up in my kitchen that says... "I know how to cook I just don't". Now we laugh at that but for the first 3/4 if my life, I spent a lot of time in the kitchen. I had to! Growing up in a family of 13 people, cooking was just one of the chores. Mom and Dad both were good cooks.(They both had plenty of practice.) They were encouraging as we all took turns trying out our different recipes on the family. Once grown, I had my own children in the kitchen sharing time there and learning how to prepare those three meals a day. They turned out to be better cooks than me! I'm finally at the point in my life where I cook for pleasure and not just necessity. My husband still gets hungry but we eat lighter; making a home cooked meal a special treat a few times a week. Maybe this is just a phase for me right now but this doesn't make me a bad cook; just busy with other interest right now.(Like publishing Books) I do enjoy entertaining my husband as well as family
My cooking triumphs
I love to make up recipes and try them out on my family. Most of them turn out pretty good and become a repeat. The others don't make it to my cook book entries. I seem to be a winner when I cook for my family but the only contest I ever competed in was a Chili Cook Off a few years ago where I won 2nd place.
My cooking tragedies
My most recent one was when I was suppose to take a cake to a bake sale. I really don't know what happened for sure but I was in a hurry so I think when I got it out of the oven too soon AND hurried out the door, something happened. My plans was to frost it when I got there so it wouldn't be bumped around in transit. Ya know? ...To keep it looking pretty. It was very cold outside so by the time I got to where I was going, the whole thing sunk in the middle and looked hideous! I was so embarrassed but the mess but had to take it in so they wouldn't think I had stood them up...I called it my "Let Down" cake.
