About this Cook
I am a busy professional, wife, and mom to 3 young kids. I enjoy cooking and trying new things. I usually try to keep things a bit more healthy for my family. I go for quick and easy recipies without a lot of fuss and love using my slow cooker.
My favorite things to cook
Soups, casseroles, anything in a slow cooker, baked goods. My grandma's apple pie.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking with my kids. It teaches them about cooking and team work, cooperation, and how to follow directions. And it is great "together" time for all of us!
My cooking triumphs
When I was first dating my husband, we were going to his family's for Thanksgiving. I volunteered to make an apple pie. I was very nervous to cook anything for his family seeing as it was my first holiday with them. I used my grandmother's recipe and it got rave reviews! They have thought of me as a great cook since then.
My cooking tragedies
When I was a little girl, I was baking cookies for my 4-H project and tested them out on my siblings. The cookies were so hard no one could bite into them. Then my brother threw one outside on the porch to see if he could break it and it dented the porch! Haven't had a disaster quite that bad since!

Amish Bread
Wonderful recipe! I made this in my bread machine twice today. Followed the recipe exactly. The first time I set the machine for a 2 pound loaf for a light crust (3 hours total). It was a bit under baked. The second time, I set it for a 1-1/2 pound loaf for a medium crust (3 hr, 10 min) and it was perfect. I've never liked how the bread from the machine comes out with a hole in the bottom so next time, I may process this in the machine then bake in a loaf pan in the oven. Definitely a keeper!

Apple Banana Cupcakes
I would call this a muffin rather than a cupcake but it sure is good! I replaced the shortening with equal amount of applesauce and replace buttermilk with skim milk. Because the applesauce was sweetened, I reduced the sugar to 1 cup. The mixture seemed too wet to me so I added about 1/2 cup of oatmeal. I reduced baking temp to 350 degrees. Done in 25 minutes. Wonderful!

Graham Cracker Cookies
A bit too rich for me. I used mini marshmallows and chocolate chips to make them smore cookies. Kids liked them!
