I'm a full time student at UC Berkeley studying philosophy and English. I cook simple meals on weeknights and often tackle larger projects on weekends.
My favorite things to cook
Pork, chicken, turkey, soups, stews, cakes, pies and candies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family does a good job making a small amount of ingredients go a long way by putting them into soups, stews, pies or pastries.
My cooking triumphs
I felt pretty good the day I made homemade divinity.
My cooking tragedies
I once put so much chili powder into a burrito recipe that a group of southern Californians could not bear to eat it, and neither could I! Another time I frosted Christmas cookies with black frosting- nobody touched them. The most memorable incident is when I made meatloaf the night my brother came home after six months away, and I served it partially raw. Oops. He and my boyfriend both felt obligated to eat it for awhile before I realized and put the remaining loaf back in the oven for half an hour.
