Hazelnut-Mushroom Pilaf

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
Good stuff! Though I'd love to try it without so much butter! I cooked it 10 minutes longer because it was so crunchy, but that didn't take away all the crunch. I guess pilafs are supposed to be crunchy. Didn't use any hazelnuts

Beef and Parmesan Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
Needed more broth - would've needed even more if I cooked the zucchini IN the meal - and I decreased the parm. Loved it! But it's obviously not perfect the way the recipe is.

I was hoping for a bigger topping, but the pie still tasted great. I used the lemon juice & walnuts, but no raisins.

Stuffed Shells I

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
I made 12 servings of this which filled a 10x15, 9x13, and 9 inch pie plate. I followed the advice of "redamber" by not boiling the shells. And it worked great! (I had to make it the night before and pour 1/2 - 1 cup of water of the tops of shells with their stuffing.) The moisture of the sauce on the bottom, the filling, and the water softens the shells. And they needed to cook for 50-60 mins the next day. Also I poured the top sauce on (which I added ground turkey to) right before baking. This recipe was salty =(. I needed more sauce than the recipe called for. I put the filling in a ziploc, cut the corner off, and squeezed the filling in. Seems like a great recipe! Probably much easier the way I and some other people did it! I added spinach too!

Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
Quite good, quite sweet! A 10x15 pan works, I kind of wanted it even more spread out than that, but I was skeptical. I think I'll try a bigger pan next time. 1/3 less fat cream cheese and Light Smart Balance turn out fine in the filling! I lined my pan with oiled foil and had to peel and cut it off slowly after I had flipped it onto the towel when it was done baking.

Coffee Ice Cream

This was delicious! I followed the ingredients and directions exactly! If I make it again, I'll leave out the sugar though. I think the sweetened milk was enough sweetener. Very high calorie recipe!

Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2009
Delicious! According to the TOH website, this recipe is 702 calories per 2 pancakes (with the syrup I'm sure). But I make mine about 320 calorie by using skim milk, part WW flour, and Smart Balance Light (instead of butter). I didn't make the honey syrup and they really don't need maple syrup since I couldn't even taste it. Try some lite whip cream if you just want some moisture on your pancake.

Speedy Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
Mine got too salty when I was trying to get it out of its bag! I wish I had seen the suggestion to rinse off the bag before getting it out. Sounds like a good idea! I blended it with coffee and cocoa powder to counteract the saltiness but it didn't work well enough so I wasted it. Using a mixture of fat free evaporated milk and skim milk DOES work, but I'm not sure if it tastes great...

Amazingly delicious! The bread didn't get stuck in my pan at all! I used whole wheat flour for the 1 of the cups of flour and I can't even tell! I think I'll be making this alot!

French Toast Stars

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
I didn't use stars cause I didn't want to waste bread. But this recipe was a waste of calories anyway. It doesn't taste special at all with the heavy cream and it's a little too orangey. I didn't hate it, it was definitely edible, but I won't make it again.

Chocolate Cheesecake Milkshake

This is delicious! I liked it better thicker when I used only 1 cup of milk. (And it still wasn't very thick; you can easily sip it through a straw.) I think I'll definitely try this with non-fat cream cheese and with different types of ice cream sometime! Awesome!

Strawberry Vanilla Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
I cooked 1 pancake and it was too thin and it was messed up. So I had to add 1/4 cup flour. They were delicious tho! It tasted like I was using strawberry syrup on them! I couldn't single out the flavour of the vanilla so I definitely don't think 2 tablespoons was too much.
