I'm barely still a '30' something housewife of a major fishing fanatic! No kids, just pets, that eat me out of house & home, especially my 130lb Rottie-Sherman! My favorite thing to do besides work (yeah right!) is cook. I don't know how, but I pretty much became a Barefoot Contessa meets Betty Crocker on my own (other than the family's traditional treats), or I'd like to think I have!
My favorite things to cook
I love to make almost anything, except liver. Some of my 'so called' specialties are my BBQ ribs (my hubby's favorite), mac-n cheese, chicken fried steak, almost anything that involves fish and chicken, appetizers & anything else that's fattening! I also make numerous off the wall salads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma is Greek, so I've been lucky enough to eat the GREATEST leg of lamb ever made, along with her tomato orzo & feta romaine salad. How she did it, I'll never know (she's 90, doesn't cook anymore, my dad's learned the 'trick of her lamb so I'll have to pick it up from him).
My cooking triumphs
I was so proud that I pulled off some great stuffed grape leaves w/the infamous Greek lemon 'sauce' and grandmas tomato orzo (but you have to have lamb stock 4 it). Everybody raves over my ribs (beef), but try not to laugh, I don't even eat 'em.....I make myself a nice ribeye instead, while everyone else makes a 'mess'.
My cooking tragedies
Ummmm, I think there's been quite a few over the past 20 years. I just about set fire to a ham once (& have gone to 'HoneyBaked' ever since!). The first Thanksgiving turkey I made tasted like an eskimo's shoe (now I've got the knack though, so they're great). The rest of nightmare tragedies I'll spare you... just so I don't put a dirty taste in your mouth!
