About this Cook
My first cooking experience was when I was 6 years old. My father found my grandmother's 7-Up pound cake recipe and stayed in the kitchen while I whipped it up. It came out great, and I've been the family baker ever since! I hate fast food. I do not eat pork or red meat, so I have to do a lot of cooking at home. That's even more so because I live in the South. Hunni, let me tell you, Southern people will put bacon on just about anything! If I want gumbo or lasagna, I have to learn to make it myself... and I've made a lot of friends that way ;-)
My favorite things to cook
Turkey/ veggie main dishes. I try to eat pretty healthy. I use my oven A LOT!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Southern. We fry everything. I'm breaking the trend a bit :-)
My cooking triumphs
I taught my sister, who is 8 years older than me, how to boil water. Now you can't keep her out of the kitchen. LOL!
My cooking tragedies
I didn't believe vanilla extract was flamable at first. I poured some into the metal cap asn set it ablaze. When I tried to blow out the flame, I knocked over the cap and "flambe"ed my counter. Yeah... not fun.

Jerk Chicken and Pasta
This tasted like something out of a restaurant! I made a few changes. I did not use jerk paste (couldn't find it). I used a jerk seasoning rub from the site, used a portion, and added a bit of olive oil to it to make a paste. Instead of using chicken, I broiled 4 tilapia coated with olive oil on both sides, then sprinkled with salt and the homemade jerk seasoning. For the cream, I substituted coconut cream. That "made" the recipe for me. It went over well with company and I love it.

World's Best Lasagna
BETTER THEN STOUFFER'S! It's been about 5 years since I've had a red-sauce lasagna. I'm a current college student in born and raised in the deep south, and if I can make it... YOU SURE CAN TOO!! 4 of my friends and 2 of my roomates helped me gobble it up. I just changed a few things: Ground Turkey and Turkey sausage (I don't eat pork/red meat. Thus why I haven't had lasagna in forever!). I agree with other reviewers: FENNEL IS A MUST! Unfortunately, I didn't have any. The Italian Seasoning I used had it in it, so I doubled the spices. Oh it was incredible! I'm making this at least once a month because I know I can make 2 pans of it and it still be great. Try this recipe!!
