Caramel Apple Jam

We have never had apple jam before but I was tired of apple butter so I decided to make jam this year instead with our apples from the orchard. I used Mcintosh apples, followed the recipe, and it turned out wonderfully so I made 2 batches! The first batch made 7 jam jars with a little extra I put in the fridge and the second made 9- I think this is because I was a little quicker with the second batch and didn't let it simmer for so long. Will make again and am planning on giving it for Christmas!

B.L.T. Salad with Basil Mayo Dressing

Garlic Red Potatoes

Yummy though I did add extra Parm cheese to the tops of these as well as additional garlic. Baked at 350 for 45 minutes lightly covered, then 15 minutes uncovered to get nice and crispy. Will be made a staple at our house.

Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies

These are very good (though used Andes Mints rather than the other chip-variety listed). I'm a mint-chocolate lover and I really could only eat 1 cookie because they were so potent.

Baked French Toast

Mushy, mushy. I used 3/4 of the bread called for, less liquid as other reviewers had said, turned the bread over and it was still too mushy for our taste. I ended up taking it out of the baking dish and putting each piece- not touch anything- on a broiling pan and baking until the entire piece came out firm. I was hoping for a quick and easy meal with the pleasures of french toast without the work and I ended up more frusterated and in the kitchen for longer than if I had just made it on my skillet. I gave it a two star because the flavor is good (it is exactly what I use for a skillet-prepared french toast) but it was just so gross and mushy I can't rate it higher.

Banana Bread V

Good banana bread as is, but to make it 5 star I add 1-1 1/2 t cinnamon, 1 t vanilla, sub 1/2 c brown sugar for white, and use 3/4c whole wheat flour. Yummy!

Garden Veggie Pizza Squares

Made the recipe using 1/2 the ranch packet but omitted red pepper since I didn't have any and sub. pre made pizza dough instead of the biscuit for football Saturday. I added cauliflower and a very small sprinkle of cheddar cheese across the top and it was great. My non-veggie eating father in law had 4 pieces and my non-green pepper eating fiance had 3! It went the fastest even though there were so many greasy/chip dip options available! Will be making again and again!

Soft Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks

These were good, flavorful with the Italian seasoning. I didn't have fresh garlic so I used garlic powder, I used shredded parm. since I didn't have the grated kind, and I used one packet of yeast (which is not a full 3 t, but they were still wonderful and fluffy). Next time I will probably use more cheese and pull the bread sticks out to butter them during cooking. We like ours a little more soft. They came out really fluffy, and I made these the traditional way (aka, I used my own hands to mix the ingredients)

White Cheese Chicken Lasagna

All Day Apple Butter

I've made this twice, once last year and once this year. The first time I made this, I didn't know how to tell if it was done and stopped cooking too early. This time I decreased the sugar by 1 cup as I used a combination of sweet/tart apples and did the "done" test as described by another review and it turned out great. I did have to cook it for about an hour longer than the directions stated.

Apple Squares

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

I had problems transferring the puffed doughnut forms into the fryer without them deflating. I also felt the dough tasted a lot like the elephant ear recipe on this site but a lot puffier.

Bavarian Apple Torte

I made this recipe as directed (but with a little more apple) and it was good. We ate it with carmel topping and it enhanced the flavors. Next time though I am changing the bottom crust to a graham cracker crust and adding a dash of nutmeg or cinnamon to the filling.

I had issues with my bread rising, but my house was cold! Very flavorful even though they were dense! I also brush them periodically with butter as my boyfriend love soft sticks. Will make again and again!

Elephant Ears

Simply wonderful! When I was melting the shortening/milk/sugar mix I thought this was a huge mistake, but it really turned out perfect in the end. I ended up with ~12 6" rounds and only made half the recipe. The only thing I did differently was adjust the topping to the way I like (much more sugar, much less cinnamon). BTW, 3/8c = 6 tablespoons.

The Best Bean and Ham Soup
