About this Cook
I've been cooking along-side my mother ever since I can remember. She has transmitted this passion and I have kept it up since I've moved out. Being a vegetarian for the past 12 years, I like to experiment and make sure I have balanced meals.
My favorite things to cook
Muffins and soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As a child, we had tons of blueberry bushes in our back yard. My mother would tie empty peanut butter jars around our necks with a string so we wouldn't spill them. So my brother and I would set out to collect as many blueberries as we could. Then, we would watch as my mother used them to bake pies and grandfathers; licking the bowls and batters. Every year, I would make an orange cake for my grandfather's birthday. I would decorate it with orange slices and chocolate hearts.
My cooking tragedies
One evening I was exhausted and decided to bake a johnny cake to relax a little. So I followed the recipe to the letter, not really paying attention. There was a mistake in the recipe - it called for 1/2 cup of salt rather than 1/2 a teaspoon. Needless to say, the cake was not edible!

These were delicious. I added 1 heaping teaspoon as suggested in other reviews, but I didn't find it was enough when tasting the uncooked batter, so I added more. I sorta dropped the bottle in!!! I got some out, but all in all, I probably had the approximate amout of 1 tablespoon and they were perfect. I do NOT think they need any extra sugar (as suggested), they are plenty sweet as is. I rolled out the dough and used a cookie cutter. They came out nice after 15 mins of baking, but they were probably thinner than in the original recipe (yield was of 24 and I got 37). I didn't add any almonds. I also don't think it is necessary to grease the cookie tray. They have tons of butter already. I lined mine with parchement paper and when I took it out of the oven, the paper was dreanched with oil. I will definately make these again.

Spelt Biscuits
Very nice! After reading other reviews, I too halved the salt, but, to add a little flavour, I used celery salt instead of the regular. I also added 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder. They came out perfect.

Peppermint Hard Candy
Very nice and incredibly easy recipe! Only thing I changed was double the peppermint extract as recommended by another member. Thanks for sharing :)
