I've been cooking along-side my mother ever since I can remember. She has transmitted this passion and I have kept it up since I've moved out. Being a vegetarian for the past 12 years, I like to experiment and make sure I have balanced meals.
My favorite things to cook
Muffins and soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As a child, we had tons of blueberry bushes in our back yard. My mother would tie empty peanut butter jars around our necks with a string so we wouldn't spill them. So my brother and I would set out to collect as many blueberries as we could. Then, we would watch as my mother used them to bake pies and grandfathers; licking the bowls and batters.
Every year, I would make an orange cake for my grandfather's birthday. I would decorate it with orange slices and chocolate hearts.
My cooking tragedies
One evening I was exhausted and decided to bake a johnny cake to relax a little. So I followed the recipe to the letter, not really paying attention. There was a mistake in the recipe - it called for 1/2 cup of salt rather than 1/2 a teaspoon. Needless to say, the cake was not edible!
