About this Cook
Being a wife of a certified chef, in a kitchen I am constantly haunted by these two ghosts: strive for improvement and fear of failure. He is the reason why I want both: to cook more and improve, and at the same time to turn away and never come back to the kitchen :) My mission now is to stay there and improve :)
My favorite things to cook
Deserts! But life makes me look for favorites in real food too :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband makes the main dish and I take care of the dessert - that's the best tradition for me :)
My cooking triumphs
one of the latest - last mom's birthday, where everyone loved both: the roasted chicken I stuffed with duck pate and my honey cake...
My cooking tragedies
Aaaah! Loads of them... But you live and learn :) One of the most memorable one: was making a grated potato pie according to grandma's recipe (traditional Lithuanian) and only when it was in the oven for already 1/3 of it's cooking time I remembered I'd forgotten the salt... So I took it out, put it all into a blender (!) , added salt, blended to smooth puree and again into oven. Ended up being better than it sounds, but way worse than I had hoped for :)

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread
In the family where few like sweet breads his was a hit and if I make two loaves in the evening , by noon the next day there are just few bites left.... Until this recipe I actually never ever cooked pumpkin and never knew it could be used to make something soo good ... For practical purposes I make it in cupcake pans of various sizes . I also add ground hazelnuts - tastes great!

Pate and Pistachio-Stuffed Roast Chicken
Pearl of any dinner :) Really delicious. But be sure to leave just a little space free when you put in the stuffing, otherwise the chicken might burst while roasting. Also, I removed the front bone of the ribcage and the front ribs before stuffing - this way it was easier to cut it later.

Almond Tea Cakes
Great recipe. Really easy to make and the result is delicious. I made 24 for the beginning and for in half of them I added white sesame seeds into the filling mix. Also I put in a whole blanched almond in each of them. It was great!
