About this Cook
I'm a college student with about two years left until I have a degree in Art Education and a degree in Elementary Education. My boyfriend is an awesome cook and got me completely addicted to learning how to make new things in the kitchen.
My favorite things to cook
Zuppa Tuscana, pumpkin bread, green bean casserole - and my absolute favorite thing to make is spiced warm cider in the crockpot. It's the only thing I make with no recipe, and it also gets the most requests from family and friends.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom is a pretty awesome cook, but my favorite thing she passed down to me is our stir-fried cabbage. Just slice a bunch of cabbage up, throw it in a pan with some butter (or spray-on olive oil) and stir-fry it with sliced onions and a couple of apples (add salt & pepper to taste).
My cooking triumphs
Learning how to make a perfect replica of Olive Garden's zuppa tuscana. Mine tastes EXACTLY the same - except we get to throw in extra sausage:).
My cooking tragedies
Oh lord, here we go. I like to experiment. I got an awesome recipe from this site on how to make your own sausage from ground pork (basically just seasoning it yourself). It sounded fun. When they were made and cooked, I bit into one - it was like biting into a salt block. The recipe had called for salt, but not a whole lot. When I flipped over the package of ground pork, the ingredients read "Pork, salt." I'll never forget to check that EVER again. You'd think they'd mention it on the front... I was so sad about my sausages that my boyfriend took me to Bob Evans instead, and my salt-patties went to the trash. Lesson learned.

Easy Herb Roasted Turkey
This was my 1st-ever turkey & it turned out really great!!! The white meat was a tiny bit dry, but that was completely my fault - got preoccupied with some finicky sweet potatoes and left it in the oven sans foil for longer than I'd intended. I did follow other reviews by removing the foil (don't have a lid) for the last 30-45 minutes of cooking, using chicken broth instead of water, stuffing with onions/minced garlic, and sprinkling generously with paprika for extra color. This will be my base turkey recipe for years to come!!! Only thing I'd do differently next time would be not leaving it in too long, and using less oil & more herbs in the rub mix. Yum!!!

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing
This was my first-ever attempt at homemade stuffing and it turned out perfectly! My only changes were using sage sausage (I'm not crazy about turkey-sausage) and adding more bread and stock - for a moister taste. I cooked it separate from the turkey as well. Only changes I would make for next time would be to double the recipe & add more bread (probably throw in some sourdough too). This was a huge hit at my family's Thanksgiving, & will be my staple for many more to come!!!

Crustless Spinach Quiche
This is such a great basic recipe, and mine turned out so yummy that I couldn't stop myself from getting just one more piece:). I threw in some diced ham & used about half of an 8 oz. bag of shredded cheddar cheese & it was delicious! Next time I think I'll try adding diced tomatoes.
