My favorite things to cook
Zuppa Toscana, green bean casserole - and my absolute favorite thing to make is spiced warm cider in the crockpot. It's the only thing I make with no recipe, and it also gets the most requests from family and friends.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom is a pretty awesome cook, but my favorite thing she passed down to me is our stir-fried cabbage. Just slice a bunch of cabbage up, throw it in a pan with some butter (or spray-on olive oil) and stir-fry it with sliced onions and a couple of apples (add salt & pepper to taste). Serve with smoked sausage! (I'd also advise that you cook at least some of the sausage in with the cabbage - yum).
My cooking triumphs
Mastering the homemade version of Olive Garden's Zuppa Toscana.
My cooking tragedies
Oh lord, here we go. I like to experiment. I got an awesome recipe from this site on how to make your own sausage from ground pork (basically just seasoning it yourself). It sounded fun. When they were made and cooked, I bit into one - it was like biting into a salt block. The recipe had called for salt, but not a whole lot. When I flipped over the package of ground pork, the ingredients read "Pork, salt." I'll never forget to check that EVER again. You'd think they'd mention it on the front... I was so sad about my sausages that my boyfriend took me to Bob Evans instead, and my salt-patties went to the trash. Lesson learned.
I also, for some bizarre reason, cannot cook grilled cheese sandwiches without scorching at least one of them. I think it's because I always get distracted while I wait for them to cook. I've been using a timer lately & so far it's helping!
