Great-Aunt Nina's Noodles and Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
I didn't use a whole chicken and added a bay leaf. I also didn't do homemade noodles as I didn't have the extra time but loved the fact this was an easy slow cooker meal.

Happyhouse Comfy Cozy Beef Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
This was very good and super simple! We had to use cabernet vs. merlot because that is what I had in the cabinet at the time. The cabernet was a bit too strong for the stew and I know the recipe would be much better using merlot. My husband is a big fan of his grandmothers stew. I asked him how he liked this recipe and he said it was "alright." I accidentally left the stew out overnight and had to throw it out. The next day when he asked where the stew went, he was so disappointed that it didn't make it back to the refrigerator so he could eat the leftovers. So, it must have been better than "alright." LOL! Thanks happywife05!

Simple Ranchy Breaded Fish Fillets

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
I broiled vs. fried. This had a very tangy taste. I love ranch dressing and it was just okay for me. However, my taste buds are off because I have a cold so I am grading upward to a 4*.

Special Request Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
I make something very similar to this and we call it a breakfast quiche. I use a whole pound of cooked meat (sausage, bacon, etc.) a sleeve of finely crushed Club crackers (which equates to about two cups) omit the butter and combine all. Bake in a 9x13 casserole dish. Do not double it as it will not turn out right, just make a sccond batch. You can prepare in advance or bake immediately and it reheats well.

Almond-Crusted Tilapia

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
This was good however, we actually prefer the Broiled Tilapia Parmesan from this site. We didn't have enough parmesan cheese to melt over the top but this had a good overall flavor. In my opinion, this recipe was missing just a little something. I think a light sauce to go with it would have brought this from a 4* to a 5* recipe. We will make this again but will need to work on a sauce to accompany it.

Slow Cooker Latin Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
The chicken was so tender and tastey. I am going to start buying chicken thighs more often! I also loved the salsa, bean and potato mixture. I didn't have salsa on hand and used a can of diced tomatoes with green chilies. I also sub. the sweet potatoes for white potatoes as I am not a big fan of the sweet potato. I also omitted the allspice as I didn't have any on hand. This was a very easy, convenient, and tastey recipe.

Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
I used thin cut pork chops vs. the center cut bone in pork chops because that is what I had on hand. These were very flavorful and I loved the sage flavor in these. They almost tasted like a beef stew vs. a pork chop but still very good.

Pumpkin Fluff Dip

I am not a big pumpkin fan but wanted to make this for fall/halloween. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. I served with cinnamon graham crackers and apples. This recipe makes alot so I had major leftovers!

Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
This banana cake was AWESOME. I used bananas that were over ripe that I had stored in the freezer. (They are so much easier to mash and more flavorful this way.) I thought the baking temp. was low but made the recipe as written. I checked the cake after 1 hour and the middle was still liquidy. I ended up baking it for 1 hour and 20 minutes and popped it in the freezer as directed. The cake was moist but I don't think it would have been any different had baked it at a higher temp. and skipped the freezer step. This recipe made ALOT of frosting. The overall result was EXCELLENT. Make this recipe! SO GOOD.

Grilled Potatoes and Onion

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
This is a family favorite for sure. We typically have yellow onion on hand so that is what we use. Sometimes, we just grill onions in foil all my their lonesome and sometimes we add other veggies in too. YUM!

Corny Beef Brunch

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
I remember dad frying roast beef hash and scrambled eggs in the mornings growing up. I thought I would try this because I haven't eaten anything like it in years. I also thought it would be easier than standing over the stove. It was easier but not tastier. Two things stood out to me... 1. the hash was mushy and I like it more done/somewhat crisp. I think 2 cans of hash would have been plenty and may not have ended up as mushy. 2. The eggs were really eggy with no milk added, no spices other than the pepper .

Easy Cream Cheese Danish

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2009
These were great! I made them as written and thought there would be too much filling, as other reviewers mentioned, but they were perfect. I may try adding some jam or pie filling next time.

Slow Cooker Roast Beef

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
I slow cooked the roast my normal 8-10 hours but other than that I followed the recipe. I typically add potatoes and carrots. The meat and potatoes had a good flavor but I did not like the carrots. The overall flavor was good but wasn't a whole lot different in taste from what I normally do with no soy sauce.

Peach Cobbler VI

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
This was okay. My huband loves cobbler and he didn't comment on this recipe at all. I think it would have been better if I used fresh peaches vs. canned. Also, this didn't really have a crust, it was more like peaches in a moist cake. It was good but not the best.

Cedar Plank Salmon

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
I am not a salmon lover but my husband is. We grilled this and didn't have a cedar plank but probably had the same effect with the cedar chips. We also didn't have sesame oil and used oilve oil instead. It was average tasting for both of us.

Venison Schnitzel

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
This was very good. I am fairly new to cooking venison and my husband mentioned making something like this. He was impressed with the outcome. I did marinate the tenderloin in milk as other reviewers mentioned. It was very good however, next time I would like to add more spice (cheyenne pepper and/or red pepper flakes)to the flour mixture as a personal preference.

Baked Cheddar Bacon Spread

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
I made this recipe in a small slow cooker, halved the recipe and used green onions because that is what I had on hand. It was very good and tasted like a baked potato, without the potato. However, I think I prefer it as a topping vs. a spread or dip though.

Daddy's Popcorn

This reminds me of home. Mom always made popcorn and dumped it in a paper sack and took it to football games. However, I prefer making this with peanut oil vs. vegetable oil.

Parmesan Chicken I

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
I really wanted to like this recipe beacuse it sounded good and was so simple for a one pot, slow cooker meal. The rice was a bit firm but was probably my own fault for using brown rice since it typically takes a little longer to cook. The onion soup mix made this taste very salty. The kids liked it but my husband and I weren't huge fans.
