I was a working mom but because of the birth of my handsome son EMRE and my beautiful 3 year old daughter(hi Sena!)I chose to be a stay at home mom. I am married to a gorgeous policeman(hi canim!!). I enjoyed working, but I love being home with my family more!
My favorite things to cook
I tried to be vegetarian but missed all the yummy foods with meat so I am going back to being a carnivore. My family eats anything I make that is not vegetarian! I love to bake or grill chicken and baking cookies or bread or just about anything yummy is a passion! I also make awesome lamb chops(Turkish style per my background).
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Eid we(the women) always got together to make Su Boregi(this is a borek with cheese and parsley and it is made from scratch...that's right make the dough from scratch and thin it out in layers...alot of work)and also we make baklava from scratch...no one in my family has EVER bought phyllo dough from the store...it's always by hand...I have yet to master the technique for this as it takes alot of patience and with a 2 year old that is very difficult!
My cooking triumphs
I knew that I was good when I made my own tomato sauce from scratch(I roasted the tomatos in the oven)and I also knew that once I can make Su boregi on my own that was a triumph on its own as it too is a looooooooooooooong process.
My cooking tragedies
I once made zucchini pancakes(another Turkish dish) and it never occurred to me that zucchini lets go of alot of water when it has been grated and u have to constantly drain it...well lets just say that when you drop sopping wet zucchini in hot oil for frying you better be ready to clean up a BIG MESS!!!
