About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love the Angel Chicken Pasta from this site. I think everyone loves that one. I have also branched out on the slow cooker. Allrecipes has some fantastic slow cooker recipes posted - some of my favorite being the chicken and dumplings, the slow cooker barbeque ribs and the beef stroganoff. I cook more "involved" recipes on the weekends - pies, fresh breads, the beef tenderloin with shallots from this site is great and the Chicken Tortellini Soup with Tomatoes is also very good. I like cooking meals that require a special ingredient that completely makes the taste of the dish. I love cooking with ginger, wine, port wine and different spices. Kudos to allrecipes for providing such a great site for cooks nationwide.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family cooking traditions would include solid main stay every day dishes - something quick, hot and tasty to throw on the table after 5pm. We also have our traditional Thanksgiving day dishes and my Mom makes the most incredible soft Christmas cutouts which we would frost and decorate when we were young.
My cooking triumphs
Rolling a pie crust out from scratch like my grandmother used to. Anyone in the 21st century who has the ability or the patience to successfully roll a pie crust out by hand deserves some serious props.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made a dish with pancetta, the pancetta I purchased had apparently gone bad and had a slight odor to it. Having never cooked pancetta, I didn't know what it was supposed to taste/smell like. The fancy three cheese pancetta pasta dish that took me hours to prepare was absolutley horrible and all of my guests threw it away. I ended up making grilled cheese.

Beef Tenderloin With Roasted Shallots
This was incredible!! So yummy and definitely worth the trouble. I used a venison loin and it was still amazing. Also, I did not have shallots, so I just used regular onion, but cut back on the quantity somewhat. Other than that, I followed the recipe to a T (OK, I might have added just a wee bit more port wine) and it was incredible. I would give it ten stars if I could. And can't wait to try it with beef and shallots! Thanks for a great recipe!! One of the best on this site!

Baked Pork Chops I
This was very good. After reading some of the other reviews I did end up doubling the sauce. For the sauce, I upped the wine and reduced the milk, used 1 can cream of mushroom and 1 can golden mushroom and sauted onion, mushrooms and fresh garlic in the same pan I cooked the pork in. My only mistake - I made the sauce in the same pan that I did the pork and veggies in and the leftover olive oil may have dulled the flavor somewhat. I would recommend doing the sauce in a different pan, even though it creates another dish to wash. I also browned the heck out of my pork chops and cut my oven time down to 40 minutes. Tasty tasty! Thanks for a great recipe!!

Chicken Tortellini Soup With Zucchini and Tomatoes
This was great!! I agree with another reviewer in that I do not think it was "quick" to prepare. For anyone else who might have been confused, you need to make the entire chicken base recipe for the tortellini soup and the entire recipes makes A LOT. Don't get me wrong - the final product is incredible and tastes very good. There's just a lot of it. I ended up freezing half of it. The next time I make this, I think I might make the chicken soup base, divide it into 1/3 packages and freeze 2/3 of the soup. That way I can adjust the tortellini soup recipe to 1/3 of the chicken soup base and stil have more chicken soup bases to try with other variations. Someone mentioned a Black Bean Chicken Soup that I would love to try. All in all - a very good recipe especially on a cold day. Thanks for sharing!!!
