About this Cook
I'm married with one 18 year old daughter. I have a rewarding career as an LVN in long term care with seniors. My husband and I are in the process of remodeling the house from the studs out. Only one room left to be done! Aside from cooking, I love to scrapbook, garden, decorate, spend time with our 5 toy poodles, ride my Harley, and TRAVEL!
My favorite things to cook
I like things that are quick, easy, economical, full of flavor, and 'company worthy'. We have some dishes that we traditionally serve for certain occasions so we try and adhere to keeping those things on the respective menus.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband loves my (and only my) potato salad. As soon as the weather warms up and we can grill outside, he wants a batch of potato salad whipped up. He'll eat it 3 times a day until it's gone! I also have to make our family recipe for gelatin salad every year for Thanksgiving. Also on that menu is my cranberry relish and my sausage/apple/onion stuffing. We enjoy deep fried turkey though brined and roasted turkey is darn good too! Fall also means lots of soups, chowder, and chili. Christmas is the perfect excuse to indulge our sweet tooths and share goodies with family and friends!
My cooking triumphs
I like to serve Thanksgiving dinner at our house each year. Usually there are about 8 to 12 of us. My mom makes the best appetizers and I do everything else from scratch, including several choices for dessert.

A-Number-1 Banana Cake
I used kefir instead of buttermilk and it turned out just delicious! Also used chocolate chips instead of nuts. Having the first piece right now while it's still warm. It is delicious, and one for the 'keeper' file!

Ranch Dressing II
Yum! Served this tonight on our Cobb Salad, also from Allrecipes. It was the perfect compliment! I quit buying salad dressings this past year. They always taste too 'vinegary' and too salty to me. Making them fresh I can also only make the amount we'll use and not have to toss out any partially used bottles because they taste funny to me. Definitely will keep this recipe!
