Born and raised in MI, matured in CA, retired to TX. 1 daughter, 1 grandson, 1 granddaughter, 4 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter.
Married twice and divorced both times. Last divorce in 1980. I attend paint classes at the DeSoto Senior Center and spend Sundays painting with a friend who has become disabled and can't come to the center any longer. Take an occasional trip to Chocktaw with the Center to Gamble. Also like to attend their Mystery dinners. We have no idea what restaurant we're going to. Lots of fun.
My favorite things to cook
Chicken and Dumplings, without a doubt. Also Chicken Parisienne, cooked in a slow cooker with Cr. of Mushroom soup, mushrooms and sour cream. This recipe has passed down to my daughter and she passed it on to her kids. Definitely a favorite. Also Prime Rib in my convection oven. Better to watch it brown than to watch a movie on TV.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My tradition is Prime Rib for Christmas Dinner, Black Eye Peas for New Year's and luck and my daughter took over the tradition of Turkey for Thanksgiving and Lamb and Ham for Easter. And of course, home-made ice cream on the 4th of July.
My cooking triumphs
I had leftover chicken and dumplings. Dumplings were all gone, but a lot of chicken and nice rich, thick broth left. I cooked up some no-yolk noodles and dumped them in. My grandkids were little then. They loved them. That's when they discovered that Gramma was a good cook.
My cooking tragedies
My second wedding reception was a disaster. At least my part was. We had a small wedding with a kind of pot-luck reception. I made baked beans from scratch. Only problem was I didn't pre-cook the beans long enough before I mixed in all the other ingredients and stuck them in the oven. The beans never did get done.
