I am 21 and live in Midland, MI. I am a senior at Central Michigan University studying elementary education. My favorite things to do are dancing, swimming, and of course baking and cooking. The biggest thing going on with my life right now is that I am getting ready to get married in January. My tastes are very varied and eclectic, but my fiance is an extremely picky vegetarian, ( as in no potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggplant, beans and many other things used as the base of vegetarian recipes.) He started ocassionaly eating steak after a vitamin B12 deficiancy, but he won't do ground meat, and I'm a chicken and fish girl. In a few months I'm going to be faced with many cooking challenges to say the least! While he will definatley be eating things he doesn't like, I do want to make the effort to find things that he does like that the whole family can enjoy.
My favorite things to cook
I'm more of a baker than a cook, and I love to make bread. In terms of cooking, on a day to day basis I love to make simple things, like stirring whatever I happen to have on hand into pasta, ( affectionatley known in my household at "stuff in a pot"). However, I do like to experiment and make special things from time to time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother's side of the family is Mexican, so of course I love to cook the food. On my dad's side of the family my grandmother's dinners are legendary. expecially the spaghetti with meat sauce. My Grandpa also has a blueberry farm, so blueberries are dear to my heart. It also can't be a holiday without my family's famous Dilly Bread.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean loaf of braided french bread.
My cooking tragedies
I was experimenting with a recipe for chicken strips for the national chicken cook off, and my oil was too hot. The chicken was black on the outside, and raw on the inside.
