I am a mother of twin boys who were born 6/13/06. I enjoy trying new recipes as my family has very adventurous tastes. My weekness is spelling so please forgive all my spelling errors!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook Mexican food. My dad was born and raised in Mexico and I find the food to be comfort food. My husband is black (African American)and I am trying to learn some new soul food and traditional African American recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family cooks for 50+ every holiday. No I don't have a huge family, my family always thinks we will run out! Every Christmas its hundreds and hundreds of cookies and such. My mom is the best cook I know, and many others agree. I also have a cook book that was my great-grandmothers and I love to cook from it.
My cooking triumphs
I successfully cooked a family Thanksgiving this past year with no mishaps and enjoyed watching all the family enjoy. I have become the new Thanksgiving cook and that makes me feel wonderful.
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 14 my mom bought me an asian cookbook and I was trying some new recipes. I tryed a crab wonton recipe. I worked for about an hour just preping them plus about another 30 minutes cooking them. I sat down to enjoy as my mother was already "enjoying" them. I took a bite and realized that they were AWEFUL!! I did not take into account that my mother and I did not like the really powerful asian flavors. They tasted like oil and soy sauce. YUCK! My mom had eaten about 5 of them before I sat down and took a bite. I looked at her and said "Mom these are aweful you do not have to eat them." She looked at me and said, "Thank god, these taste terrible!" Thats how wonderful my mom is, she ate them so she wouldn't hurt my feelings. Oh we gave them to the outside dog and even she wouldn't eat them!
