About this Cook
I'm a work-from-my-home Wife/Mom. I home schooled our 3 sons. My husband and I are in the ministry; presently in Ireland. I grew up "on the farm" and have a Mom who unknowingly taught me LOTS about cooking! Once we moved to Ireland, my cooking knowledge broadened immensely! I love having the best of both sides of the "big pond" in my cooking "trouseau"!
My favorite things to cook
Slow cooker meals; vegetarian; almost ANYTHING. But I HATE "frying"!!! I avoid it at all cost--both for health reasons and mess! I'm a "neatnik" to the bone!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday meal favorites; birthday favorites. Homemade pizza, wacky cake, anything VEG, and lots of NEW things! I LOVE trying new recipes! (It's like sight-reading a new piece of piano music. Great joy to me!)
My cooking triumphs
Cream puffs; making "something nice" out of whatever is "on hand"; pizza; grilled aubergine; I'm great with experimenting. Just have a sense of what will "work".
My cooking tragedies
I burned a roast once. Church went extra long and it was in oven. Had first-time guests coming, too! So, I gave them a choice: burnt roast or burnt roast. We all chose "burnt roast" and survived. As a cook, ALWAYS learn to "laugh" at your mistakes; just don't make the same one TWICE!

Peruvian Lomo Saltado
An absolutely gorgeous dish! I served it over oven-baked chips. But I served the leftover saltado over bulgar. We would choose bulgar any day! It was FAB! In keeping with the Peruvian theme, it would also be lovely served over quinoa.

Peruvian Alfajores
This was one of the recipes from this site from which I planned a Peruvian menu for a birthday meal. Instead of making them into sandwich-type cookies, I frosted each thin cookie with lemon butter icing. I also mixed half butter with half shortening. They were EXCELLENT!!! Received rave reviews and were easy! A pleasant combination of pie crust/biscuit. Try them!
