I started baking about a year ago and have learned that I am quite good at it. I can cook too (but that's a secret) but with just one of me I hardly ever do other than breakfast foods and popcorn. I like to try interesting combinations of food as I am a picky eater. Desserts...at work they tell me to quit and start a bakery (I am a financial consultant)...not sure if they love my baking or they just don't want to work with me ;-) Making Christmas cookies! My family used to bake all together when we were kids and as we got older I would help my mom with her baking. She would literally bake thousands of cookies to give away. I started my own tradition this year baking cookies for all my friends. I guess it would be the dark chocolate cake with cream cheese filling and dark chocolate frosting I made for father's day. I was told by my dad that if I didn't bring it for his birthday two weeks later I would be disowned. FUBAR cake ;) in college. Every year my mom makes me a chocolate layered Christmas tree cake (my birthday is during the week of Christmas). My first year at the U of M and it was my golden birthday during finals week so my roommate and I decided we were going to make it for my party. Sadly the cake wouldn't come out of the pan :(. To this day I seemed to have a hit and miss record with layer cakes and can't figure out why.
