I'm an artsy type. I love to read, draw, write short stories and poetry, design clothing, cook, and listen to heavy metal (my favorite genre). As a career, I want to be a fashion designer, but if that fell through, I would go to culinary school. Since I'm only 19, I'm still learning.
My favorite things to cook
I like to create my own new recipes, often acting on a craving and seeing where it takes me. I love pastas, soups, stir-frys, chicken, and veggies. anything tangy, juicy, or spicy is right up my alley. I also enjoy riffing on old classics.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom always makes a delicious pan of strata for Christmas breakfast, and I come from a long line of cooks who rarely measure; how much to add of something is often a matter of intuition or already-established taste. We go with what works for us.
My cooking triumphs
Speaking candidly, there have been many. My boyfriend just about fainted when I served him my chicken and mushroom alfredo sauce over pasta. And I remember watching with a grin as the bids went higher and higher for my cookies at a church dessert auction. My vichyssoise has been voted quite delicious by all who have partaken of it, and my spaghetti sauce, though it changes every time I make it, is always good. Okay, I think I've bragged enough.
My cooking tragedies
Well, there was this one recipe for Mexican corn soup that tasted like sour oatmeal, and one recent pan of lasagna (i know, how could i possibly mess up on that?) in which there was not nearly enough sauce, and it was quite dry. Uck. And also a pan of pan dulce (sweet bread) that, for some reason, didn't turn out so dulce.
