I am The Mom, as they say, I have a toddler and a teen, my children are what take up my days right now but I wouldnt want it any other way.I love cooking and tweaking recipies and trying new things, and then again sometimes I feel like I'm in the kitchen all day and just want to boycott supper and drive through the nearest McDonalds.
My favorite things to cook
I like chicken dishes because chicken is so versitile, I like to get creative, the latest thing I'm working on is a chicken stew inspired by chicken pot pie. I really like to bake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My sister and I like to find a really difficult looking recipe, usually something Italian, or greek, and shop for the ingredients together, and then come back to my house to prepare it, we have so much fun & learn alot. We double up the recipe, once our meal is finished, we clean up and she takes her dinner home all ready to go, and I have dinner for my family all done by mealtime. She works alot, so this is a time we really look forward too, just to talk and yet be productive, plus she gets time with my youngest who is the only child not in school so he gets special auntie time, and for him licking the spoon is a great bonus too!
My cooking triumphs
I cooked my first Thanksgiving dinner when I was 12, my mom was recovering from back surgery. I am forever saying to my 14 year old daughter, If I can cook Thankgiving dinner at 12, you can heat up your own soup!
My cooking tragedies
Back when I was dating my husband I wanted to make him some sugar cookie cut-outs for Halloween, later when I went back to his house to visit I asked if he and his parents enjoyed the cookies I made and he said (sheepishly) "umm they were kinda doughy" so I made my way to the kitchen and opened my Tupperware, and lo and behold, the perfectly cut-out pumpkins with orange sugar sprinkles were neatly stacked in layers on parchiment paper and yet to be baked. Oh My Lands I grabbed the wrong container, the baked ones were in my freezer. *smile* I still laugh at that one.
