These mini pumpkin spice cakes were so easy.  They are homey, not gourmet but the kids loved them!  I made them for the Cake Walk at my daughter's school fall festival.  They were a hit.  I used a box of spice cake mix, 3 eggs and a 15 oz can of pumpkin.  Mixed per… MORE

I made a Sleeping Beauty Cake for my  daughter's 5th birthday.  I can't believe how easy it was!  I used the doll cake recipe from the Pampered Chef website, tinted some frosting, added a cake topper and some candy pearls and voila, beautiful cake! MORE

My husband and kids bought me a stand mixer for Mother's Day.  Today I made cookies....what a treat and so easy with the stand mixer.  For Easter I made Hot Cross Buns and nearly killed my hand mixer when mixing the dough.  I told my husband that I thought my culinary skills were… MORE

I usually pick up a whole chicken when it goes on sale.  Here in So Cal you can sometimes get chickens as cheap as .59/pound.  Sometimes I make Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style other times I use another recipe but I always follow the cooking method  (roasting at 250… MORE

What to do with that leftover ham..........I decided to try Brunch Enchiladas for dinner tonight.  I hope they turn out ok.  In the spirit of trying to use up leftovers, I decided to "make do" with some ingredients that I had on hand.  I had 2 cups of reduced fat mexican… MORE

My easter menu is simple, it consists of some of my family's favorite foods.  Ham, of course, Southern As You Can Get Collard Greens, Whipped Sweet Potato Bake, and Skillet Potatoes with Bacon and Cheddar.  For dessert I am going to attempt to make Cadbury Creme Brul'egg. MORE

I have always loved baking!  Even when I was a girl, I would bake cookies because my mother never did.  But until today, I had never baked with yeast.  I made hot cross buns and I was quite surprised at how well they turned out!  I think in coming weeks I may venture into… MORE

About Me
I love cooking and baking. I especially love the thrill of finding something new to try. I like to try new "culinary recipes" as opposed to new "cooking recipes". But on the other end of the spectrum, I enjoy finding new recipes that are inexpensive. I like to find a recipe that works with whatever meat is on sale on the front of the local grocery flyer.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking Indian food mainly because I love eating it! I also enjoy baking, again because I love eating baked goods!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mother always made Indian food and I guess I am carrying on that tradition. We are not Indian.
My cooking triumphs
Creme brulee, slow cooker carnitas, dal makhani.
My cooking tragedies
I got a cookbook from the library on Southern Cooking. I tried three recipes and they were all horrible! My family brings it up often. I don't think they used a test kitchen when writing that cookbook!
