Almond Drops

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
These were good. I cut the recipe in half and added 2 tsp of almond extract. I also used slivered almonds instead of sliced almonds. They would be better with a little more almond extract. Also might try dipping them half in chocolate next time. Would make again. Thank you.

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
I used white cake mix and 1/2 tub chocolate frosting. I froze the balls to make it easier to dip. I needed 4 7oz chocolate bars to coat. I used dark chocolate. They were a big hit!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
This is the same recipe my cousin gave me. It is great. The only differnce is I only used 1 1/3 cup flour, 1/2 tsp salt, and no cloves or ginger. It is great. My kids loved it. My cousin also added walnuts and raisins. I baked in 4 8 inch foil bread pans. Yum! I usually don't like pumpkin bread, but I like this. I might try someone elses suggestion and use 1/2 cup applesauce and 1/2 cup oil next time to make it a little healthier.

Italian Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
I have made these twice now and they went flat both times. The first time I let it rise for 1 1/2 hours, the second time 1 hour. It was better the second time, but still not nice and round. I will try 35 minutes next time. I added 1 tsp of sugar as others suggested. Both times I forgot the cornmeal. I am not sure if this made a difference. They tasted good.

Cinnamon Rolls II

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
These are great! They are 5 stars with minor changes. I cut the dough recipe in half b/c I have a 1-2 lb bread machine. It would have been too much for my machine. The submitter must have a larger bread machine. Second, for the filling I used 1 cup brown sugar, 2 Tbs cinnamon and 1/3 cup melted butter. I made the full amount of frosting, but added about a tsp of vanilla. I softened the butter in the microwave. After slicing them and putting them in a 9x13 glass baking dish, I put saran wrap over the dish and put it in the fridge until I was ready to bake. It rose in the fridge, so I skipped the second rise. I baked for 20 minutes, but put it in the oven as it preheated. The rolls were slightly browned and a toothpick came out clean. I then dumped them in another 9x13 dish so the sugar middle would slide back in. I iced and served hot. The leftovers went in the fridge. YUM!!! Thanks for a great recipe. I am glad I tried this one over the Clone of Cinnabon recipe after reading all the reviews. These are better than store bought!!!

Italian Bread Using a Bread Machine

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
This was really good. I used 2 cups bread flour and 2 cups all purpose flour. I skipped the cornmeal. I made rolls and froze half before the second rise. These are great! Also good if you sprinkle some garlic powder on them before baking.

Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2009
This bread was really good. It rose a little too much for my bread machine. It hit the top. I deflated it and put some Pam oil spay on my hands so it wouldn't stick (I read the suggestion on another site, it worked and I didn't have to add more flour). I did substitute 2 Tbs canola oil for shortning and white sugar instead of brown sugar(I didn't have shortning or brown sugar). I didn't put the raisins in the dough, I rolled out the dough, put on the sugar/butter mixture and sprinkled on the raisins. I than rolled up the bread. I was out of butter and eggs, so I brushed the top with water and sprinkled on some cinnamon and sugar. I might us an egg wash next time. I froze one loaf and baked the other. Oh, mine only needed 1/2 hour to rise. I then set the oven to the temp and left the bread in for 30 minutes. It was perfect. This bread was great!!! I would definately make it again.

This came out flat and hard. I halved the recipe. I am glad I didn't make the whole thing. What a waste. I don't know why it got such rave reviews. I like the taste of the ones with honey better anyway. Thanks anyway.

Soft Giant Pretzels

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2009
This recipe was good. I did throw all the ingredients in my bread machine, so it had a 1st rise. I was surprised it didn't need to sit for a second rise. Much easier to roll out than another recipe I have used. After baking, I brushed with melted butter and then sprinkled salt on some and cinnamon and sugar on the others. Next time I will follow Bobby Flay's suggestion and brush with an egg wash (1 egg and 1 Tbs water) and bake with the salt or cinnamon and sugar. That made a crisper outside. The taste was good. Will make again.

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2009
Good French rolls. Not sure if it really did much, but I followed someone else's suggestion and sprayed water on the rolls while baking. I baked 15 minuters, misted with water and then baked 5 more minutes. I didn't put the second coat of egg b/c I didn't want bits of egg on my rolls. Don't bake as long as the recipe says or it will burn. Would make again. Might cut down on the yeast to 1 tsp, rolls tasted a bit yeasty.

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
These are very good. It is very close to the recipe Bobby Flay used on the Throwdown show. I threw the ingredients in my bread machine on the dough setting. I put it on a lightly floured surface and cut into 6 pieces (I only made a half recipe). It was kind of hard to roll out. They were very thick. I might try one of the suggestions and roll, then let it rest and go back to it. I boiled 4 cups of water and added 4 tsp baking soda. I dropped in for a few seconds and then put on a greased cookie sheet. I let it rise for 20 minutes in a warm oven. I brushed it with an egg wash and put cinnamon and sugar on some and salt on others. Then baked for 12-15 minutes in a 425 degree oven. They were very thick (my fault for not rolling it out more) but tasted very good. Will definately make again, but next time with all purpose flour.

Chile Garlic BBQ Salmon

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
This was good. I left off the lime zest (b/c I didn't use a fresh lime) and the green onions b/c I didn't have any. I only used a 1 lb of salmon. Next time I need over a 1 lb, we could have eaten more. I thought it needed a little more garlic and ginger. Overall, very good. My 5 year old loved it and was disappointed when it was all gone.

Peppy's Pita Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2009
I didn't use the weigh method, I weighed the round pieces. 3 oz each makes 8 pita breads. I baked some on my pizza stone. They didn't puff the same as the ones I baked on the cooling rack in the oven. I put in large brown grocery bag with a towel inside and put a heavy bottle on the end to seal. It was kind of thick. I might make 10 next time and roll it thinner. Left it there until dinner was ready. Served with homemade hummas and greek chicken.

Extra Easy Hummus

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2009
Definately easy. I was looking for a recipe that didn't have tahini since I didn't have any and didn't want to go out to the store. I took other's suggestions and used 1 tsp olive oil and 2 tsp sesame oil (instead of all olive oil). I also added 1/2 Tbs lemon juice.
