Friendship Soup Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2009
I gave this 4 stars because I think it's too salty. I think 1/4 of bouillon is perfect. I used clear treat bags instead of jars to save money. This makes a great christmas gift if you're trying to avoid all the sweets.

I liked this a lot! I used salsa that I canned myself. If you think it's bland, you might want to try a different brand of salsa.

Szechwan Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
We liked this, but it was too salty. I would use the reduced sodium soy sauce. The spice was just right if you don't like things too spicy. If I weren't feeding it to kids, I'd probably up the red pepper a bit. I'd probably try it again with those changes.

Pumpkin Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
First of all, I'm a big fan of both pumpkin pie and rice pudding. I don't think this tastes like pumpkin pie and I didn't love the pudding. I made it exactly as written(4 cups of milk is not too much when using the right rice), but something in the pumpkin layer seemed off. I think it could have used more sugar and spices. I would taste the pumpkin half before baking it, and add whatever you think it needs.

Avocado, Tomato and Mango Salsa

I really liked this salsa. I like to add extra mango so the flavor of it doesn't get lost in all the others.

Baked Pesto Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
This is good, but I would suggest marinating the chicken for a few hours before baking. Also, we like using feta cheese instead. Much more flavorful that way.

Whole Wheat Sweet Potato Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
Way too sweet as written. I use 1/2 cup of honey instead of 1 cup. I also use plain yogurt, and they're still plenty sweet. I never bother with the topping.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

I love the idea of these. I followed the recipe exactly, but wasn't too impressed. They turned out fine, and the kids thought it was really cool, but I couldn't really even taste the cookie dough.

Spooky Witches Fingers

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
These ended up being a lot of work, but they looked really gross (in a good way). They taste good too, if you can manage to eat one. Before shaping them all, I did a trial run, and baked just a few, so that I could get the size and shape just right, becuase they do grow while baking.

These are a favorite of mine. I've been making them for years. The only thing I do differently is add chopped onion. Great recipe!

Thai Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2009
This salad is great. It's a must with Thai or Indian food. I prefer to use only 1/3 cup sugar. I always add chopped onion and sometimes omit the jalapeno depending on who I'm serving it to. Also, I skip the first step, I just throw it all together and add about 1 tsp of salt instead of 1 Tbls. I like to use the dry roasted peanuts.

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2009
This would be 5 star without the sugar. It's plenty sweet when coupled with the sugar coated chips. The chips delicious even alone. I've made this a few times. It's easy to substitute whatever fruit is availiable. It's always a hit.

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
Yum! My husband rates this as one of his top favorite dishes, especially when served with Thai cucumber salad. I used 2 Tbs of curry powder, as called for, but added a bit of curry paste for additional heat and flavor. As another reviewer stated, 6 chicken breast halves is the perfect amount of meat for the sauce.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
I love this cake. I've never had a problem with regular chocolate chips sinking (the batter is very thick), but I do prefer the texture of the mini choc chips. This cake is good same day, but SO much better the next day. I always prepare it a day ahead.

Frog Eye Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
I love this stuff! This is almost the same recipe that I've made for years. The only differences are that mine calls for 1/2 pkg of pasta to the amount of sauce shown here. So, If following this recipe, I would double the sauce. Also I never add this much fruit. I prefer it with less. I use 2 cans of mandarin oranges and one large can of pineapple tidbits. I drain the juice from these and use it for the sauce. Sometimes I skip the marshmallows, It's plenty sweet without.

Plain Cake Doughnuts

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2009
Good basic cake doughnut. Easy and fast. I like that you can be done from start to finish in about 30 minutes. I didn't need to add extra flour other than the flour I put on the table and rolling pin. I dipped some of them in the vanilla glaze (from this site) and topped with sprinkles. For the others, we shook them in a bag with cinnamon and sugar.

Sour Cream Pork Chops

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2009
I wanted to try this as written even though many of the reviews have added changes. I think the original recipe is very good . I did season heavily, however. I found it easier at the end to remove the juices from the crockpot and make the gravy in a pan while keeping the pork warm inside the crockpot. That way you don't have to wait so long for the gravy to get done. I think I would also add more flour to the sauce, it was a bit thin. Very tasty. Just make sure to use enough seasonings in step 1.

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2009
I used just short of a whole tub of frosting and had no problems with it being too gooey. Don't put the frosting in while the cake is still warm. Make sure to cool completely. I froze the balls for a few hours before dipping. Overall, easy to make and tastes great.
