About this Cook
I'm married with 4 sons. I love to try new recipes and to cook for other people. Because I like cooking and eating, we try to stay active. We like hiking, backpacking, climbling and canyoneering. We live in a great area where all these activities are just minutes away.
My favorite things to cook
It depends on the day. Sometimes I'm in the mood (or maybe it's guilt) to make healthy food. Other days, I have no problem making and eating a whole dessert myself.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love to make fun birthday cakes. My mom always did the same for us when we were growing up. My kids tell me what they want, and then I try to make it look somewhat recognizable.
My cooking triumphs
My husband built a pizza oven this summer, so we've made tons of pizzas, and I think we may have finally mastered perfect pizza.
My cooking tragedies
I like to can the things we grow in our garden. Last summer I was canning salsa and forgot that it was only half a batch; I added enough salt for a full batch, which is like a cup too much. I didn't have enough produce left in my garden to make it a full batch, and I tried everything to make it edible, but ended up having to throw it out.

Albondigas
I liked this a lot! I used salsa that I canned myself. If you think it's bland, you might want to try a different brand of salsa.

Szechwan Chicken
We liked this, but it was too salty. I would use the reduced sodium soy sauce. The spice was just right if you don't like things too spicy. If I weren't feeding it to kids, I'd probably up the red pepper a bit. I'd probably try it again with those changes.

Pumpkin Rice Pudding
First of all, I'm a big fan of both pumpkin pie and rice pudding. I don't think this tastes like pumpkin pie and I didn't love the pudding. I made it exactly as written(4 cups of milk is not too much when using the right rice), but something in the pumpkin layer seemed off. I think it could have used more sugar and spices. I would taste the pumpkin half before baking it, and add whatever you think it needs.
