About this Cook
I live in the far north of Canada and really love it up here. I have quite a stressful job, and cooking on weekdays is not my favorite thing to do. I have been married for 11 years and have 2 boys 13 and 8. My 8 year old is an extremely picky eater whose 2 food groups are candy and hotdogs. I can not get him to eat much else. My 13 year old is slowly growing to enjoy foods that my husband and I eat, but I think I met my match with my youngest!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook almost anything that I think would be good that we would enjoy. I have begun to bake more and more, have always made bread but moving into cakes etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother was not much of a cook, but was a great bread maker! My father was an excellent cook and very adventurous. He cooked authentic chinese, a lot of italian and we had a phillipino lady that lived next door that he was good friends with and she taught him to cook her traditional foods. I would always have to start dinner when I got home from school and when Dad came home he would always give me tips on things I might have missed. Unfortunately my dad cooked from scratch and never had a recipe for anything. He is now incapacitated with Alzheimers so his great food has been lost with his memory
My cooking triumphs
Christmas Turkey last year! I never seemed to be able to make a good dressing (stuffing) and never got the turkey cooked quite right, last year it all came out great, I think I shocked my family. I normally cook all my meals without a recipe, such as chili, lasagna, spaghetti sauce. Since finding this website I am definitely trying new things. I am addicted!
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 12 years old, I thought I would bake a cake for my mom's birthday, while she was at work. I decided to make an angel food cake, and made many phone calls to the receptionist at mom's work. It may have turned out (I will never know) but poured the batter into a 9 x 13 pan. I also thought that food colouring would be a nice touch. It ended up to be a dark blue rock. I think we had to throw the pan away with the cake!

Red River Beef Stroganoff
Noone in our family likes mushrooms, so left them out. It was a hit. Next time I might use some of the other suggestions such as dijon mustard or red wine additions to make this great recipe even better.

Dill, Feta and Garlic Cream Cheese Spread
This dip went over well and I was asked for the recipe. Next time I think I will add some sour cream as it is a little "dry" for my taste.

Pesto Pasta with Chicken
We really enjoyed this. Even my picky 13 year old liked it. It was great as leftovers for lunch too!
