Stir-Fried Steak and Veggies

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2012
This came out really well. It didn't take long to make and I thought the sauce tasted great. Instead of cauliflower, I used mushrooms and onions. The only other change was I used fresh garlic and sprinkled on some red pepper flakes because my husband likes things spicier. I used a cheap cut of steak, and it still tasted great. I'll be making this stir-fry again.

Blueberry Breakfast Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2011
Perfect as written--it was so good and so easy to make. I added a little extra cornstarch and it wasn't needed. Next time, I'll stick with the amounts listed. I put it on a lemon cheesecake pie, and everyone thought it was great.

Lemon Pie II

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2011
Very good pie-- I topped it with "Blueberry Breakfast Sauce" from this site. My guests were happy. I called it "Lemon Cheesecake Pie" because the cream cheese flavor is strong. It is a softserve pie, not as thick as most cheesecake. It wasn't soupy though--it still held up and tasted delicious. As easy as it was, I'm sure I'll make it again and the blueberry sauce went so well with the lemon.

Thai Coffee

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2011
I was looking up ways to use up sweetened condensed milk; I had been meaning to try this recipe because I like cardamom. I think I'd like this better served on ice because it is so sweet. I'll make it again but will use less of the milk next time for drinking hot.

Hard Do Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2011
This is good bread. As others have said, it's very close, but it's not quite the same as the one from the Caribbean shop. If someone figures out the secret to make it exactly right, I hope they share it. Do not make this recipe in the bread machine--one time I mixed the dough in the machine and baked in the oven, but it messed up the consistency of the bread.

Crunchy Romaine Toss

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2011
I really liked this salad. I think it's a great recipe. I'm not sure why, but only 1/2 of it got eaten at the work potluck. It didn't go over nearly as well as the usual cabbage/ramen noodle salad. Maybe I'll try it with my family some day as I did like it.

Cantaloupe Bread with Praline Glaze

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
Very good--just has a hint of cantaloupe after you eat a few bites. I didn't make the glaze-- it's a very sweet bread and doesn't need it. (I used 1 c white sugar 1/2 c honey & 1/4 cup raw sugar.) I put about 3/4 c pecans in the bread. Also, I used 2 eggs, 1 T flax and added 3 more T puree.

Blueberry Walnut Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2011
I had never had blueberries in a salad, and I loved it. I only used 1/2 pint of blueberries though and used 1/2 sliced strawberries. I also added some green onions and chicken as suggested. I served this as the main course at a luncheon, and the ladies all raved.

Tuna Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2011
This was okay (wouldn't want to use canned vegetables though). I used fresh carrots that I boiled the last 5 minutes with my pasta and thawed frozen peas. Instead of the mayo, milk and mix, I used prepared ranch dressing. Along with salt and pepper, I added onion salt and garlic powder. It was a little bland, but it made a good lunch.

123 Mocha 2 Go

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
If you put in all the recommended cinnamon, it is way too much. I suggest cutting it at least in half. Globs of cinnamon were floating on top and also settled on the bottom. This would also look better if put in a food processor or blender to make the consistency finer. I thought the amounts of coffee, chocolate and milk powder were just right and the recommended serving amount tasted perfect.

Abernathy Biscuits

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
I had never heard of these, but after reading about them, I think this is probably a good recipe for them. I replaced the shortening with butter because I never keep shortening on hand, and I found other recipes for this with butter. Very easy to make. The caraway seeds are a bit odd in a cookie and I wonder if they could be ground up first so you aren't left with so many seeds in your teeth. :-P The cookie baked up nicely and has a nice flavor.

Wienie Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2011
The sauce tasted fine on sliced smoke sausage. It is very sweet. I chose to cook the sausage right in the sauce instead of dipping it. I think it would be good in the crockpot, especially if you want the sauce to cook down and be thicker. I might make again, adding some extra spices or the half bbq sauce as suggested by some.

Chicken Enchilada Dip

Reviewed: May 31, 2011
I make this for a lot for pitch-ins and people seem to really like it. I always use a large can of chicken to save time. Do not use Miracle Whip/salad dressing instead of mayo. I usually use the Mexican blend of cheese instead of cheddar. Sometimes I add some cumin, onion powder or other spices, but I like it fine without the extra spices. I've also left out the peppers and used a can of Rotel (drained) instead.

Pizza-Pan Cookies

Reviewed: May 28, 2011
Good recipe; I cut it in half for only one pizza pan. This made a nice cakey cookie. I think it needed double the salt to bring out more flavor. My son doesn't like cakey cookies, so he wouldn't eat this.

Peanut Butter Candy

Reviewed: May 4, 2011
These have a good flavor and are a bit chewy. They are tastier than the peanut butter balls with just milk powder and honey, which I do not like. I had to come back today and change my rating from a 3 to a 4 because after sitting in the fridge all night, I kept going back to get another one. They are a bit oily on your fingers and don't keep their round ball shape and really stick to the plate, so not the best for taking somewhere or gift giving. But I will make again for a quick snack when I need something sweet/chewy. I want to use crunchy peanut butter or add nuts next time!

Orange Cream Drink

Reviewed: May 1, 2011
I thought this was really good, even using OJ from a carton. Nice creamy taste without the extra fat of real cream. Only change was I used 1 T honey and it was plenty sweet for me, although I'm sure some people would like it sweeter.

Creamy Family Style Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
This was good but not creamy. I even used half and half instead of milk to try to make it creamier. I didn 't have any soupiness issues like some people. I did stir it halfway through and think that is definitely needed or it would have separated too much. This was best warm out of the oven. I didn't care for it cold the next day and it didn't reheat very well.

Snack Crackers

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
With the amount of seasonings and oil, I think I should have used 2 packages of crackers. The ranch flavor was especially too strong. It's a good idea, easy, no baking necessary, but I'll need to tweak if I do it again.

Pepperoni Pizza Pita

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2011
These were great! We've found a new favorite for lunch or an easy dinner. So quick, and the kids could make their own. I think next time I will bake them in the oven for a couple minutes before putting on the toppings because I would like the crust just a little more crispy. Also, I sprayed the bottoms with Pam.

Crumb-Coated Chicken Thighs

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2011
These were good. I upped the crumbs to 1/2 cup and left all spices the same. I left some of the skin on, so maybe that's why it took mine almost an hour to bake.
