I started cooking when I got married and moved out of my parents' house. We are still newlyweds, so my cooking experience is still very limited. Now that I have found a few recipes as my foolproof fallback dinners, I really want to try different cuisines. I am Chinese, so the first cuisine I want to master is Chinese cooking.
My favorite things to cook
My whole roasted chicken is always a hit with my husband and our friends. It's also one of the easiest things I cook.
My favorite family cooking traditions
In northern Chinese tradition, boiled dumplings are the required food on Lunar/Chinese New Year. 2010 was the first time I've attempted to make them by myself for our Lunar New Year party. I called my grandma to get her recipe for the filling and used store bought wrapping. It was a success! My husband and our friends all /loved/ them. Every bite reminded me of childhood New Year's Eve dinners at grandma's house.
My cooking tragedies
My mother-in-law makes /the/ best chocolate chip cookies I have /ever/ tasted. After we got married she gave me the recipe. The first attempt by myself was a disaster! The end result tasted like lumps of raw flour. When she was visiting us, she helped me step by step to make my own batch, so after all her help, I am finally getting them right.
