Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
I'd never tasted strawberry cake before, and I was not overly impressed with this recipe. It was very sweet, and tasted a little artificial. The texture was a little wierd also; sort of rubbery. Almost everyone else who tried it seemed to enjoy it, however. I frosted it with the Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting recipe from this site, which was the perfect frosting to the sweet cake. I had a little leftover batter, and used this in my new mini tea cake pan from Williams Sanoma. They were adorable, and tasted pretty good! Altogether, this cake was good, but I don't think I will make it again.

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
Wow! This is a great recipe! I needed a whipped cream-type frosting for a strawberry cake that would be sturdy enough for decorating, as well as for sitting at room temperature for a couple of hours! This one was just right; the cream cheese was just enough to make it sturdy without making the frosting too heavy. It tasted wonderful, and I will definitely make it again!

Caramel Frosting IV

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
This is an absolutely delicious caramel frosting! I used it to frost a homemade caramel cake, and it was wonderful. I was in a hurry, so I cooled the butter/brown sugar/milk mixture by placing the bowl into another bowl full of ice water. This cooled the mixture down in less than 10 minutes, and the frosting turned out great! Thanks for sharing, this is definitely a keeper!

Chocolate Crinkles III

Reviewed: May 3, 2009
These cookies tasted great, but I found the dough to be way too sticky to work with. This may have been because I was out of all-purpose flour, so I substituted a half-and-half mixture of cake and bread flours. However, I always do this when I am out of all-purpose and it has always worked before! Anyway, I ended up adding a little more flour, some sugar, and some cocoa powder, and I used tons of powdered sugar to roll them in. This worked pretty well, and the cookies went over very well. They were good, but I don't think I will use this recipe again.

1-Dish Pepperoni Cheese Pizza Bake

Reviewed: May 2, 2009
This was a suprisingly simple recipe! It came together in just minutes, and tasted pretty good as well! The only thing that I didn't quite like was the slightly "mushy" texture of the crust. This was not extremely noticeable, but it did keep me from giving this recipe 5 stars. I also didn't use two cups of cheese; 1- 1/2 cups worked just as well! This recipe is so easy to make that I will probably make it again.

Jackie's Sausage Soup

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
This soup is delicious! I used Italian style turkey sausage, and it was really good. I also omitted the spinach, because I didn't have any. I think it would be even better with the spinach! I used ring shaped pasta instead of orzo as well. This was really good; even my little brothers and sisters who dislike soup really enjoyed this! Thanks for sharing; I will make this again!

Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
I'm not sure I would say that these are the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever eaten, but they were very good! I used the dough as the base for the "Cream Cheese Cookie Cups" recipe on this site. They baked up beautifully, and tasted great! Thanks for sharing; these cookies are very tasty! ++++++++++++++++Update+++++++++++++++++++ I just changed my review to 5 stars because I used the dough again for the base of a cookie pizza. This dough works great as a base, and makes really, really good cookies that stay soft, but not puffy. Thanks for sharing; I must say this is one of the best chocolate chip cookie recipes I've ever used!

Cream Cheese Cookie Cups

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
These cups are really good! Since I don't ever have refrigerated cookie dough in the house, I made my own, using the "Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies" recipe from this site. This worked really well! I made a double batch of the filling, and added about 1 cup of whipped cream to make it lighter and fluffier. This was much easier to pipe into the cups. I garnished the top with chocolate curls. They were so pretty and everyone loved them! This is a wonderful recipe that I will make again and again!

Sesame-Soy Broccoli Florets

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
This is a very fast and easy recipe for broccoli. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't spectacular. I don't think the sauce was quite flavorful enough, and it was a little oily. The flavor that it did have was good, it just needed more. I'm not sure if I would make this again.

Chicken Scarpariello

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
This was a very easy and tasty chicken dish. The recipe supposedly makes only two servings, but I found it to be more like four or five. I added extra garlic, because my cloves were pretty small. It was very yummy served over egg noodles. I will probably make this again. Thanks for sharing!

Steakhouse Black Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2009
I was pretty disappointed with this recipe. I did make my coffee too strong, so the rolls were a little bitter, but the texture wasn't that great. The rolls were pretty hard and dry. I had pretty high hopes for this recipe, and was disappointed that they didn't turn out. Sorry, I won't be making this again!

Nutty Brown Rice Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
This is a delicious and beautiful salad! With the addition of carrots, it would have every color in the rainbow (except blue, of course!) and it tastes even better than it looks! I didn't add the mushrooms, because I didn't have any, and I also doubled the amount of salad dressing, because it was a little bland. With these changes, the salad is absolutely fantastic and so healthy! I will definitely make this again; thanks for sharing!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
This was one of the most delicious and easy-to-make pot roasts I have ever had! I put some quartered onions and carrot sticks in with the meat, and served it with mashed potatoes. My whole family loved it, and the juices made a wonderful gravy. Thanks so much for this recipe; I will make it often!

Couscous with Chickpeas and Carrots

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
This is a very tasty dish! I really liked the delicate flavor from the chicken broth. The only change I made was to add fresh chives instead of parsley, because that was what I had around! Thanks for sharing; I will make this one again!

Hoe Cakes

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
This was a very simple and tasty recipe! I did have a little problem with the milk separating from the batter mixture, but that might have happened because I mixed the liquids into the dry ingredients, instead of vice versa. These cakes were tasty; my family liked them with butter and brown sugar. I tried sour cream and chives, which was delicious! Thanks for sharing!

Cowboy Cookies III

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
These were some of the best oatmeal cookies I've ever tried. I used cinnamon chips instead of chocolate (because I wanted to use them up)and they tasted fantastic! The only problem I had was that the cookies spread a little more than I liked, so I added another handful of oatmeal to the rest of the dough, and the were perfect! Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe!

Divine Hard-Boiled Eggs

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2009
I used this recipe to make colored eggs for Easter. Because the eggs still had to be warm in order for the dye to work, I only soaked them in cold water for a short time. This seemed to work just fine, because the eggs came out beautifully with no green tinge on the yolks. Thanks for sharing!

Seven Layer Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
This was a very pretty gelatin salad. I wanted to make it in my jello mold, so I poured half of each batch of liquid gelatin into the mold and the other half into a greased loaf pan. This worked perfectly! The gelatin looked great and tasted great also! Thanks for sharing!

Lemon Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
This was a pretty boring cake. It had very little flavor, and a funny, dense texture. It didn't taste bad, but didn't really taste like much of anything. It was also very hard to spread the pie filling in a smooth layer on the batter. Mine ended up more in little globs throughout the cake, which was rather unappetizing. Sorry, but I won't be making this again!

Peanut Butter Easter Eggs

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
These are really cute, and tasted pretty good, but I felt that they were a little to sweet, and not quite peanut butter-y enough. I used ambrosia chocolate coating to dip them in. The chocolate hardened very quickly on the frozen balls. I decorated the eggs with little royal icing flowers/leaves. They looked adorable and were enjoyed by my family. Thanks for sharing!
