Mandarin Almond Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
This is a very easy, tasty salad. I loved the mixture of flavors. The dressing could use a little work; I found it to be somewhat bland and not all that exciting. All in all, it is a yummy salad; I will probably make it again with a different dressing. Thanks for sharing!

Beaker's Vegetable Barley Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
Thanks, Beaker, this is a very good barley soup recipe! I used homemade chicken stock instead of vegetable broth, and skipped the zucchini because I didn't have any around. I had to add an extra quart of broth because the soup was extremely thick. This was very good and very flavorful. Even so, I'm not sure I will make it again; it was very good, but not "the best."

Crunchy Pumpkin Pie Granola

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2009
This is very tasty granola! My little siblings were eating straight out of the pan; they love it! One change I made was to substitute canned pumpkin (mixed with 2 tbs. of milk) for the applesauce. I was really looking forward to making this, because it sounds like such a unique and delicious recipe. I was a little disappointed, however, that it really didn't taste a whole lot like pumpkin pie. That is why I am giving it four stars. It is a very easy, healthy, and tasty granola, though. Do not hesitate to try this! Just don't expect it to taste a whole lot like pumpkin pie!

Pumpkin Oatmeal

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
If you make this oatmeal the way it is written, it is very bland and hard. I ended up adding more milk, because the oatmeal was in a big, hard lump. I also added a little salt, which helped bring out the flavors. It was still really bland, so I added extra pumpkin, and doubled the amount of pumpkin pie spice. This helped a lot. I also sprinkled the top of the oatmeal with a generous amount of extra cinnamon sugar. With these alterations, the oatmeal is very, very good. The pumpkin gives it a smooth, almost velvety texture. I will be making this again, but with these changes. Thanks for sharing!

This is a very good recipe for pumpkin pie spice! The mixture of flavors is wonderful! I love the scent; it reminds me of fall! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Herbed Rice and Spicy Black Bean Salad

Reviewed: May 29, 2009
This is a tasty salad! I found it to be a little bit too salty, but others enjoyed it the way it was. I used fresh chives instead of the green onions, and kidney beans instead of black. I thought I had a can around, and realized I only had kidney beans after I started making it! I think I will probably try it again with black beans. This is healthy, yummy, and easy; thanks for sharing!

Crunchy Apple-Pecan Slaw

Reviewed: May 27, 2009
I was pretty dissapointed with this recipe. It didn't have a whole lot of flavor. I used dried cranberries instead of golden raisins, and I doubled the amount. I think the amount of dressing is not nearly enough; I would suggest that it be doubled. This was okay, but it lacked flavor.

Oatmeal Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I loved the cookie part of this recipe! I also underbaked mine; they were so nice and chewy that way! The filling, however, tasted a little too much like shortening to me. Altogether, this is a good recipe, but if I make it again, I would definitely make a different filling. Thanks for sharing!

Chocolate Almond Pudding

Reviewed: May 23, 2009
This was a very rich and chocolatey pudding! I really liked the flavor, but the texture was not quite as good as pudding made from a boxed mix. The only change I made was to use vanilla instead of almond extract, because some members of my picky family didn't think it would taste good. It was very tasty topped with whipped cream! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Cookie Dough for Ice Cream (Eggless)

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
Yum! I used this recipe to make cookie dough for my homemade ice cream (I used the Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream recipe from this site) and it was fantastic! However, if you want to make that ice cream recipe with this cookie dough in it, I suggest making a double batch of dough, because one batch was not enough for my cookie-dough crazy family! This was really, really yummy, and I will be making it again! Thanks for sharing!

Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
This is such an easy, tasty vanilla ice cream recipe! Even though it is a cooked version, I found this to be very easy to make, and everyone loved it! I used this recipe as a base for homemade cookie dough ice cream and used the "Cookie Dough for Ice Cream (eggless)" recipe on this site. Although one recipe didn't make enough cookie dough for this ice cream recipe, the results were absolutely delicious. I will definitely make this again!

Fluffy Pancakes with Wheat Germ and Applesauce

Reviewed: May 14, 2009
I loved the texture of these pancakes, but they cried out for a little salt! After tasting one, I added salt to the rest of the batter and they tasted MUCH better. I had to add extra milk and applesauce, and I still couldn't taste any apple flavor; I guess I'm not really sure if I was supposed to, but I was a little disappointed that I couldn't. These were good pancakes, but not the best. Thanks for the recipe!

Black Bean And Corn Salad II

Reviewed: May 14, 2009
This is a yummy bean and corn salad, but I still prefer the Mexican Bean Salad from this site. I thought this recipe called for way too much oil; I used 1/4 cup, and was very glad I did. 1/2 a cup is way too much, and most of it would end up being thrown out, as this salad is very juicy! I loved the strong lime flavor in this salad, and the sweetness from the corn. Since I didn't have any green onions, I used fresh chives instead. Thanks for sharing; this is a tasty salad!

Lemon Pepper Green Beans

These green beans were very good and easy to make. I liked the addition of lemon pepper, but some of my siblings did not. These were very tasty, but not the best that I've ever had. Thanks for sharing!

Brown Rice Lentil Salad

Reviewed: May 13, 2009
This was a very tasty salad, but I found it a little too salty for my taste. I will probably make it again, but will use more like 3/8 tsp. of salt. The only change I made was to use chopped fresh chives instead of the green onion, because I didn't have any. Thanks for an easy and tasty recipe!

Spinach Lentil Soup

Reviewed: May 12, 2009
This soup is surprisingly tasty! It is really easy to put together, and it is very healthy. I didn't use quite as much spinach as the recipe called for, but that was the only change I made. One suggestion though; it doesn't take anywhere near 55-60 minutes to cook the lentils! Mine were done in about 20 minutes!

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
These potatoes were very good, but not as wonderful as I thought they would be. To me, they seemed a little greasy, even after I reduced the amount of butter. Most of my family enjoyed them as well, but I did not find them as incredibly amazing as others have.

Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
I'd never tasted strawberry cake before, and I was not overly impressed with this recipe. It was very sweet, and tasted a little artificial. The texture was a little wierd also; sort of rubbery. Almost everyone else who tried it seemed to enjoy it, however. I frosted it with the Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting recipe from this site, which was the perfect frosting to the sweet cake. I had a little leftover batter, and used this in my new mini tea cake pan from Williams Sanoma. They were adorable, and tasted pretty good! Altogether, this cake was good, but I don't think I will make it again.

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
Wow! This is a great recipe! I needed a whipped cream-type frosting for a strawberry cake that would be sturdy enough for decorating, as well as for sitting at room temperature for a couple of hours! This one was just right; the cream cheese was just enough to make it sturdy without making the frosting too heavy. It tasted wonderful, and I will definitely make it again!

Caramel Frosting IV

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
This is an absolutely delicious caramel frosting! I used it to frost a homemade caramel cake, and it was wonderful. I was in a hurry, so I cooled the butter/brown sugar/milk mixture by placing the bowl into another bowl full of ice water. This cooled the mixture down in less than 10 minutes, and the frosting turned out great! Thanks for sharing, this is definitely a keeper!
