I have loved to cook since forever. I currently work as a secretary for my town's public works department and I really love it there, we laugh a lot. My co-workers and bosses are wonderful and they are always willing to sample anything I bring in. I have two children, one who is in school and a new baby. I adore them.
My favorite things to cook
I have to say my favorite things to make are desserts, baked goods and breads. I love a good casserole. I have an almost un-natural desire to find the "holy grail" of whatever it is I'm in the mood for. Like many cooks, I try different recipes for the same thing and take bits and pieces of them and come up with what I think is the perfect recipe. Lots of trial and error.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My earliest memory is making my mom's oatmeal chocolate chip cookies on Sunday afternoons after church. I still make them to this day. I also crave my mom's cabbage rolls, polish bread, lasagna and scotch oatmeal muffins.
My cooking triumphs
I found a fantastic caramel recipe and have gotten to the point where I can turn out some really good caramel candies after I had become comfortable with using a candy thermometer. I can make a really good cheesecake.
My cooking tragedies
I don't have any true tragedies, just major disappointments. Nothing is worse than putting time and effort into a dish only to leave it in too long, take it out too soon or otherwise mess it up. Sometimes it's just not the taste you were looking for. So sad.
