Hi, my name is Naomi but everyone calls me Nai. I live in a little town called Llanelli in South Wales with my fiancé & we are currently preparing for our first child, Connor Dean Taylor who is due 19th January 2009. I am a waitress at a popular chain restaurant & have many creative hobbies. One of my main ones being food. I have a passion for food & dream of one day opening my own restaurant serving only fresh home cooked food as I have a real dislike for processed items. I was previously a waitress at a little family run Italian restaurant where I met some truly great chefs & learned some interesting things. I am the first to admit that I am very hard to please and quite critical when it comes to food, but I know what I like & I don’t believe in compromise when it comes to a good meal. I love trying new foods, my favourite being Venison & my most interesting being frogs legs which I tried on my 18th birthday. I have recently completed a course in catering management & I hope to furth
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking all things, from preparing salads, to baking cakes, to cooking home made fish fingers and wedges for my younger brothers. However, my main favourite ingredient is fresh meat. Any meat, I love preparing it, cooking it and watching peoples reactions when they try it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
To my knowledge, everyone in my family can cook. As a child I used to watch my grandmother for hours as she baked on a Sunday afternoon I begged her to teach me her recopies which her mother passed onto her. My grandmother makes the most amazing cakes, cawls & casseroles & she is my main influence with cooking.
My cooking triumphs
The dish that I am most proud of was a lamb joint I cooked for my family. There were seven of us, my grandmother, my mother, myself & my four younger brothers, & I cooked & served lamb on a bed of spinach with new herbed potatoes, baby carrots & string beans with a rich red wine gravy. The only complaint they had was it was pink (I always cook red meat medium at the most) and they wanted it very well done. Even I myself couldn’t find fault with it, as the lamb really did just melt in your mouth.
My cooking tragedies
My worst cooking experience was when I attempted to cook cawl. I had all the ingredients, spent a small fortune on all the right things, I had my grandmother waiting by her phone to give me advise, & I fell asleep half way through cooking it. By the time my partner woke me up, it & the pans were beyond salvation. Everything, & yes I do mean everything pans & all, had to be binned & replaced.
