Cheese Straws

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2009
This was a wonderful recipe as is. The grandkids loved it, so did the mail man. Poor guy he often gets roped into testing things at our house. Bless him he keeps coming back with a smile. It was a bit bland then I saw I had left out the cayenne. So I tweaked the second batch. I added 3 tbs. olive oil 1/2 tsp. paprika, 1/4 tsp ground cumin, and 1/4 tsp. garlic powder. I cut back on the water to about 3 tbs. till dough was just right for the cookie press. I don't like to roll out anything I'm not sure I could find my rolling pin. Also useing extra sharp cheddar helps make the cheese taste come through. Also do let your butter and cheese warm to room temp. or better yet set on stove as you pre heat it make it so much easier to blend. I also up the cooking time to 8 min making a nice crunch in the straws.

Easy Pumpkin Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
Easy Is just the word for these muffins. and the taste well I added more spice I'm a cinnamon fan. also added pecans, and a crumb topping. They are going to Hubby's office. The taste was wonderfull firm and moist. Had some batter leftover so I added oatmeal and made into cookies, light and fluffy real cake like but the grand kids loved them. I did think of adding oil and an egg but held off, glad I did. next time I'm going to use reduced sugar cake mix.

Stabilized Whipped Cream Icing

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2009
I have to give this recipe 4 stars as is, with a few changes it’s a Five. After reading other reviews I mixed the gelatin in a small glass bowl of cool water if you add it slowly it will almost mix itself. Then heat in microwave on half power (about 500 watts) for 10 sec. this worked wonderful for me. Do chill the beaters and bowl. Allow gelatin to cool a bit then follow the recipe as written. I used spenda run through a grinder to make it carb. and sugar free. It was just what I needed to make mother in laws reduced sugar birthday cake look like it was "cheating". Thank you ETHELMERTZ this is as close as I am going to get to the commercial whipped topping used on the low sugar cakes at the mall.

Anise Biscotti

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
This recipe was my first attempt at biscotti. Didn’t have any brandy so I used kahlua. No almonds (we are not big almond fans) but wow was this easy breezy. They plumped more than I expected so next time I will down size the loaf and make three instead of two. Son’s latest GF said oh wow this is so way better then starbucks’. She gave them a 10 son was to into eating them so say. Hubby said good cookies hun what made you make them into planks? I love my man. I just said easy to dip in your coffee that way hun. I will make them again and again. Thank you Laria for a wonderful recipe and grate directions.

Carolyn's Sweet Potato Fries

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2009
Maybe I did somthing wrong, but my fries did not come out chrisp. I thought they were going to be chrisp like fries. The family loved them just the same and I did also. I did leave out the brown suger MIL is a diabetic I was worried about the sugers in the sweet potatoes without adding more to it. As I said the family loved these twin 21 yr old sons that never agree both said it's a do-again maybe even for holiday dinner. So I gave this 4 stars but not the 5 because I just can't get past the no chrisp factor.

Pina Colada Sorbet

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
This was also the first use of my ice cream freezer. I used Splenda? in place of the sugar, fresh pineapple, lime and a light coconut milk. Mother in law is a diabetic and I was trying to make something she could enjoy with the rest of us on the 4th of July. Sorry for all the changes but are they changes or substitutions. Fresh for caned and lite for regular. No mater how you look at it this was wonderfull and tasted just like a Pina Colada and even my {MIL}could "escape" with out worrie.

Beer Roasted Lime Chicken

Reviewed: May 9, 2009
Like some of the other reviewers I too added and changed the spices to my familys taste. Also did two chickens at the same time, useing the 20 min a pound rule. Not total weight of two chickens but the weight of the heavest bird. I also always use a meat thermometer. Don't skimp on the price get a good one. I'm not into the "high teck" kind just a really good themomerer. The best advise my grandmother ever gave me was to buy good equipment for the kitchen. Save up if you have to baby, but get the good stuff it's your family were talking about. Mine came out fall off the bone tender and juicy. I used extra stout dark beer from a bottle, washed out two soda cans and split the beer between the two followed the recipe adding a little more spice and lime juice and some garlic cloves to the beer. Thank you LAQUINNA for the oven recipe as I'm not much of a grillen gall.*** up date on this review still as wonderful as ever now if i don't have caned beer I use a tall mason or jelly glass jar and just pour the beer in there.

Uncle White's Bread Machine Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2009
I was drawn to this recipe because of the buttermilk (needed to use some up) and the smaller amount of flour. I gave it five stars, because it fit just what I was looking for. Tried this for Sunday dinner.I was worried about the buttermilk not being warm when I started but it seemed to make no differance. I made only one change.I used brown sugar splenda blend; but will warm the milk, egg and oil next time and add togeather to see if it does.As Valerie did. I made smaller rolls about 24 as I was hoping to have some leftover for Monday's dinner will have to make more. Son and husband took them for a snack on the way to work and class. Now I have a use for buttermilk beyond ranch dressing and fried chicken. Thank you Musterdseed for a wonderfuly easy & tasty recipe.

Lemon Coolers

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2008
Yum, yes they were sticky but oh so worth it. Then I started Playing with the recipe reduced suger cake mix, suger free wipped topping. and I made a suger free powdered suger out of splenda and cornstarch. I didn't send my mother-in-laws blood suger through the roof and she had a cookie she could call her own. Sorry for making all the changes to your recipe. I make it just the way you say for the rest of the family, but big momma get's a little more TLC. Thanks for a cookie that fills the not just the "same ol cookie" void.
