About this Cook
I'm married to an Egyptian hottie and living in Cyprus with our baby boy. There are a lot of ingredients that are unavailable or very expensive here, so I've had to branch out on recipe ideas. There are TONS of ideas on this site and I wish I had found it a long time ago. (of course I am not complaining about the abundance of OTHER ingredients which are available here and unavailable at home in the US...!) When my husband-to-be and I first got together, he was slightly sad to hear that I didn't know how to cook (except baked goods) and didn't have any interest in learning. He was already quite an experienced cook. It took me a couple years, but now I'm the main cook/ shopper/ menu planner for a 20 person camp, three months each year on a daily basis. I've come a long way, thanks in big part to allrecipes.com. My husband is pleased that I put so much effort into learning and I actually enjoy it now. We joke that he is addicted to internet soccer and I'm addicted to internet recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Cakes, cookies, breads, Indian, stir-fry, pasta... I wish I could say I'm good at making Mexican food since I love it so much, but it always turns out tasting Americanized.
My favorite family cooking traditions
BBQ outside on the deck for Christmas in the warm Arizona weather, Monster Pancake for every birthday since my childhood, quesadillas for afternoon snacks, cinnamon raisin swirl bread (my dad's specialty), mac-and-cheese from the box (actually preferred by us kids over my mom's homemade-- not her fault because I like it now. Just silly kids), cranberry muffins, BBQed shish-kebabs assembled by all 6 of us...
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make chocolate-covered chocolate chip cookie dough truffles that were more salty than sweet, and more liquid than doughy. Had to add about three times the flour and a TON of sugar. Still were not tasty enough to make again, especially since I ended up with DOZENS and DOZENS of them. =) That was 5 months ago and I still have some in the freezer. Actually, I'm not very good at candies in general.

Butterscotch Gingerbread Cookies
Very good! (But you should maybe warn others before tasting so they don't expect chocolate and get disappointed! Either that, or add more ginger so that it has a more obviously "spice cookie" kick)

Spicy Basil Chicken
Very good, but I used the thai sweet chili sauce instead of the oyster sauce (and omitted the sugar). I did not have chili oil or hot chilis so improvised with chili powder. I also added some water to create a sauce and served it over pasta. I definately will make it again, but might add some finely chopped tomato for more color. (Hint: don't eat this while breastfeeding! Woops, unhappy baby today!)

Lemon Cream Cupcakes
Quite good, but I prefer more lemon flavor and adjusted it accordingly. First time I made it, an Argentinan lady asked for the recipe so it must be good.
