My husband and I both love to cook and putter around the kitchen together at the end of the day and catch up on how our day went. He is the BBQ expert and I love to bake. We both love to try new foods, and different ways of cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Ethnic foods of all types, we love to try new food! Cajun, Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Vietnamese, any type of bread, love love love southern food, and all kinds of desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We cook Thanksgiving dinner for our extended family. They arrive early and congregate in the kitchen. It is wonderful to have them together in our home, and to have an excuse to break out the good china. We also cook mass quantities for a couple of big potluck picnics each summer. It is not unheard of to make 50 pounds each of potato salad and baked beans and a dessert, and head to the picnic site where my husband will preside over the grill and cook the burgers and hot dogs, and I help set up and serve the food.
My cooking triumphs
I have baked a couple of tiered wedding cakes that each served more than one hundred people. Because I wanted them to be absolutely perfect, I baked practice cakes and gave them away before I made the real cakes. This made me very popular among friends and family.
My cooking tragedies
Exploding brownies....I set the brownines out of the oven onto the electric range to cool. I must have accidentally mashed one of the buttons. About an hour later, the pyrex dish that the brownies were in shattered. My husband thought that it was hilarious....me, not so much.
