About this Cook
I'm just up here in the California mountains bored out of my mind with my husband and my cat. I somehow thought my mid twenties would be more exciting than this...
My favorite things to cook
I don't have one favorite thing I like to prepare, but I have the most fun when I have beautiful, fresh ingredients, like veggies and herbs. I've recently improved on my baking skills also, so there's always muffins and whatnot on the counter.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad can make homemade chicken and dumplings that I still haven't figured out.
My cooking triumphs
My latest triumph is GRAVY of all things. I used to get so frustrated...but over time, through trial and (lots of) errors, my gravy is smooth and perfect. I'm very proud, lol.
My cooking tragedies
My husband dyed something black in one of my pots and he didn't wash it out all the way...the next meal we tried to prepare turned black a couple of times before we figured out what was wrong. Doh!

Monte Cristo Hotdog
I ran across this recipe and had to try it! I made this for my husband and I, and we were really surprised by how well the flavors go together. It was a treat, definatly. Gourmet hot dogs, all the way!

Coconut Pancake Syrup
Ok, so I kind of screwed this up and it didn't thicken as much as I'd like, I tried using flour instead of cornstarch, my bad...but seriously, this is soooo delicious, even if a tad thin (my fault). I somehow had actual coconuts on hand, so if you are into some labor intensive coconut draining/ filtering/ scraping/ shredding/ dehydrating, I highly recommend it. We ate it on pancakes and on top of vanilla ice cream. I think using the fresh ingrediants really made the flavor. Will definatly make this again, with cornstarch next time.
