About this Cook
I've lived in the same, fairly small town in the San Francisco Bay Area all my life. Have worked for the past 40 years running the family business. I am very involved at our local Historical Museum, on the board and as a curator. My special interest there is designing and implementing displays. I also run the gift shop at the Museum, which is a way to raise funds to sustain the building. I have been in charge of many large fundraising events at the museum, such as a Victorian Christmas Tea, Vintage Fashion Show,Theatre Opening Gala Dinner, etc. I belong to both a crazy quilt and a miniatures club, both of which meet once a month. These are two very fun and creative hobbies. My garden is probably my number 1 hobby, now that I'm not working. We are blessed with wonderful weather here most of the year, which really makes gardening a pleasure. Myself and a couple of other friends help decorate our Church for most major Church Holidays. In fact, I would say decorating in any form is
My favorite things to cook
Biscotti,Italian Christmas cookies. Garlic and Rosemary Pork Roast with roasted potatoes and Swiss Chard & Spinach w/olive oil, vinegar and garlic, of course. White fish or Chicken in a tomato sauce made with sauteed garlic, onions, mushrooms, spinach and chard, served over freshly made polenta
My favorite family cooking traditions
Being 100% Italian, most of my cooking traditions are connected with Christmas. Getting as many friends and family members together to bake Christmas Cookies and Candies a few weeks before Christmas, keeps my grandmother's tradition going.
My cooking triumphs
Once a year, my Church has a Harvest Faire, With several ethic and other food booths. This is a whole weekend affair where the community comes together for food, entertainment and FUN. A couple years ago 2 friends and myself took over the Homemade Candy Booth. One of our older parishoners always made Divinity and when she found she could no longer do so, she gave me her "secret" recipe. I was so nervous making it for the first time, but it actually turned out PERFECT, to my surprise. Even her sons came over to the booth and tried it and approved! I also made English Toffee, which had one of our priests sampling several times during the weekend, it was his favorite. Actually, I found a wonderful Peanut Brittle recipe on your site and after 3 batches, adjusting the power level on the microwave, it is wonderful!
My cooking tragedies
Luckily, I can't think of any right now. Maybe I've just blocked them from my memory!

Microwave Peanut Brittle
With just a minor adjustment to my microwave this recipe was perfect. I have a GE Profile 1,000 watt microwave. The first batch made exactly by the recipe burned. I adjusted the power level to 8, left everything else the same and it was PERFECT!
