Alex and Katie are the "New Vegans". We live 20 minutes from Winnipeg and have our own flock of hobby chickens. After learning about Canada's meat and dairy industry, we had to become vegan as a protest. Look it up sometime. We do eat eggs, because they come from our backyard hens, who live a cruelty free life.
My favorite things to cook
Since we just recently became vegan, cooking has taken on a whole new challenge. It's hard to make vegetarian dishes that are also dairy free! It's exciting too, though, because it gives you a chance to get really creative.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When we entertain casually, I love to get everyone involved in preparing the meal. We have an open kitchen with lots of space, and the coversation really flows, (along with the wine) when everyone feels involved, and has something to do, whether it's chopping carrots or putting out the appetizers.
My cooking triumphs
Every time I can make a classic dish I love, such as taco salad, into a vegan version of it, that is a cooking triumph to me.
My cooking tragedies
That's a daily thing.
