About this Cook
I like to cook fast and easy things, but if I have time I can spend hours cooking something new or an old favourite food. I love creme caramelle but haven't cooked it myself much.
My favorite things to cook
anything involving quince, most leek recipes, Colcannon, grilled cheese on toast, pork chops w. fennel and juniper berries, Chinese "crystal" chicken, most recipes for lentils, black-eyed peas, any kind of pulses, roast vegetables
My favorite family cooking traditions
soups, French dressing w. lots of garlic, pancakes (crepes) w. lemon and sugar, rare roast beef, rare steak w. Victor Hugo sauce, always having 3 vegetables when we eat meat
My cooking triumphs
feijoa jelly, various eggplant dishes, banana cake, broccoli w. hollandaise sauce, salade boulestin, apricot jam, French bread sliced 3/4 way through w. mozzarella slices in between and anchovy + garlic sauce poured over it - baked in a hot oven
My cooking tragedies
my first packet cake - 1 inch high round the edge, half an inch high in the middle, bright pink and dark green icing

Thai Ginger Chicken (Gai Pad King)
I loved this and so did my neighbour - it was easy to make and delicious, even when I ate the leftovers cold. I didn't have jasmine rice so I used exactly the same method for round rice and it was fine too. When it was cold it was a bit like sushi rice. Next time I think I'll add a green vegetable. Thanks for a great recipe!
