I'm 26 and survived college on Ramen noodles and Easy Mac. I never EVER cooked before I got an always hungry boyfriend a couple years ago. Luckily as I've been learning he eats just about everything, as long as there's meat in it! I have found that coming home from work and making dinner is a time for me to relax and unwind from the day. This website has been WONDERFUL to encourage cooking. I love the reviews and hearing people's own experiences with the various meals.
P.S. My picture is Sam, my devoted 7 year old cocker spaniel I've had since I was 19. He's my "kid"! (I also have a 6 year old orange kitty named Cheeto.)
My favorite things to cook
I love to make (and eat) anything pasta or Italian, Asian is growing on me now as well, now that I'm getting better at making it!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mum is really into baking, so far, I have not found that I have inherited her talents. I would love to be able to cook a roast leg of lamb like her's for Easter dinner, as well as her British Mince pies at Christmas! It seems all the women in my family make their own bread (sans breadmaker) but I have not yet been brave enough to try that. My dad grew up on a dairy farm so his meals were always made with fresh from the garden veggies and fresh from the cow milk...sadly I also did not inherit any kind of green thumb so fresh is as fresh as what the grocery has! Maybe one day! :)
My cooking triumphs
As I'm still a beginner, I'm really good at following recipies to a T...however I am gaining more confidence as I learn and have started to vary from the recipies to create a more personal dish...anytime it doesn't come out icky is a small personal victory!
A true triumph for me: My first loaf of bread! My mum and grandmother have ALWAYS made their bread from scratch (without the help of breadmakers and KA mixers.) I'm a 3rd generation bread baker now, yay!! :)
My cooking tragedies
As above...when I vary from a recipe and it turns out not so hot!
