About this Cook
My mom is Venezuelan, and my dad is Trinidadian. I have a little from both cultural sides when it comes to my culinary taste... something which i took for granted until i married. Then i realized not everyone appreciates your particular tastes for food. So i needed to bridge that gap between myself and my husband by finding tastes we could both appreciate. Of course, one of the big things we still need to overcome is my dislike for handling/cooking meat (as i was raised mostly vegetarian), whereas my husband simply loves meat. Still trying to convert him to my side... haha.. but i am still learning. Who knows, one day, i might take the plunge, and start cooking some good old meat. just not yet ;-)
My favorite things to cook
all peas and beans - stewed potatoes- mashed, roasted, grilled, curried vegetables - curried, steamed, stewed
My favorite family cooking traditions
Some of the things my mummy used to prepare was black beans, salad beans or cabbage with tuna, whole wheat oven baked pizza, etc. Mind you, all delicious!
My cooking triumphs
corn pudding potato salad Cabbage Waldorf salad Spicy Buffalo Wings Spinach lasagna
My cooking tragedies
1) I once followed a recipe for Massoori Dahl soup to the letter, but it came out so watery, I had to drain out some of the water from the soup after it cooked. the 'soup' remained a blubbery mess... To this day, I still have not figured out what i did wrong... I don't even want to make it again. lol

Buffalo Chicken Wings III
this recipe came out ok. could have been better. i really wanted the flavor to soak through the whole wing. The baking tray was also very full of fat when it was time to take out the wings to coat with the sauce, and i believe that may have affected the taste of the wings too. Next time, i could probably wipe out the tray before putting back the wings on to bake.

Cabbage Waldorf Salad
excellent recipe! i am eating some leftovers from yesterday right now as a snack, and i feel proud to know that i made a great salad. My husband loved it, my mother-in-law too, i even carried a small bowl of it for my mother who loved it too. The only change i made was i threw in a pinch of salt and a pinch of sugar, just to balance off the taste of the mayo. I also couldn't find any walnuts in the grocery, so i had to do without. This salad will definitely grace my table again, especially when there is company! ;-)

Oven Roasted Potatoes
I tried this recipe and it turned out great. I didn't have all the seasonings though, so I used what I had in the prescribed quantities which was the garlic, thyme, oregano, chili pepper and of course, the salt. After reading about the sticking, i also greased the baking pan, so it wouldn't stick. To increase the fibre, I left the skins on on some of the potatoes, and peeled the rest. After cutting the potatoes, I also let them sit in some boiling temperature hot water for 5 minutes after reading a comment from one of the reviewers. I loved the idea of using olive oil. I didn't feel guilty eating this at all ;-)
