About this Cook
I love to read, cook, and watch old cartoons.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake, especially things that take a lot of time and effort. I am also a big fan of boxed mixes-those you have to try really hard to mess up.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The Family cherry pie- my future in laws have passed the recipe down for several generations and I have mastered it.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering pie crust- especially when the bottom crust needs to be thick and the top needs to be paper thin.
My cooking tragedies
Fried chicken. I will not attempt that one again.

Grandma's Gingersnaps
Great recipe! I also used cardamom as suggested by others- I like gingersnaps with a kick! I topped my cookies with crystalized ginger- You can find it at import markets an natural food stores. It is a really intense, though sweet ginger. If you use it, chop it up before you top your cookies with it, it usually come in chunks.A little goes a long way. I used butter too, it made the cookies chewier, but not greasy.

Dutch Apple Pie
Great Pie! I have been looking for an easy recipe that makes a great pie. Stapling the paper helps it to keep it closed. DO NOT USE PAPER BAGS! Those are not designed for baking, parchment paper from the grocery store,(found next to the wax paper) is what you need. Make sure that your parchment paper bag is just large enough for the pie, any larger and you run the risk of it touching the sides or grates and fire may erupt. Cookie sheets are a must. I used McIntosh apples, and the pie was great, next time I will use granny apples.

Pumpkin Cookies II
These are super yummy cookies... After you add some flavor to them. I added ginger, cinnamon, and a bit of pumpkin pie spice. I also topped the cookies with Bakers sugar. They have the texture of scones and they pair wonderfully with coffee. The larger the cookies the longer they take to bake. I used rounded teaspoons and they baked up nice and even.
