I'm a crazy mom, a crazier wife and an almost finished college student. I love animals...we practically live in a zoo! Cooking is a major joy in my life! I love having people over and filling their bellies or just making nifty meals for the family.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking desserts, new foods (whether we find we like them or not), pretty much anything. I'll try to cook anything once. My husband won't eat fish but my kids will eat ANYTHING!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love to turn on the radio and have my kids running rampant around the house while I'm cooking something that fills the house with the smell of dinner! I like it even better when my husband does the dishes!!! Growing up we knew it was dinner time when the smoke detector went off...I've only had that happen to me once!
My cooking triumphs
I'm very good at designer cakes. I work very well with fondant and a decorating bag. My cakes tend to be somewhat different. For my husband's birthday last year, we had a Halloween theme. His cake was red with a strawberry filling that I froze. The fondant was flesh toned with veins and such. I allowed to filling to thaw for a couple of hours before the party and when he cut into it, the cake "bled". It was very cool in a macabre sense.
I make a mighty fine fudge!! My stuffed bell peppers, stuffed portobella mushrooms and alfredo sauce make the friends and family go bonkers.
My cooking tragedies
Far too many to list!!
I tried my hand at tofu stir fry many a year ago when I was a vegetarian. That turned out so badly that I threw it away, took out the trash, aired out the house and cooked another meal before anyone came home to eat it!
I learned at a young age that potatoes must be overcooked to make a true southern mashed potato...mine was lumpy when I was 12 and I have never lived it down!
My first Thanksgiving on my own I tried my hand at my grandmother's (who is very southern) dressing. She didn't give me the recipe because there isn't one. She told me the ingredients and that was it. I used entirely too much nutmeg and it was just awful! I was so excited about it because I love her dressing and I wasn't home to have it and I ruined it! I butchered it! But I still ate it on principal. My ex husband laughed at me. There is more than one reason he is an ex!!
There are several more and I will add them as I remember them or as they are thrown back into polite conversation to mak
