About this Cook
Married, working Mother of three children (14, 15, 18). I live in the beautiful State of Maine and enjoy cooking with native ingredients and seasonal produce.
My favorite things to cook
As a family, we strive to eat nutritious, low fat foods. I experiment with grains such as quinoa and bulgur. I shop in season and let availability dictate my meal planning.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I enjoy preparing family feasts and spend nearly every Sunday cooking the coming week's meals in advance.
My cooking triumphs
As a former restaurant owner, I am most proud of my commitment to prepare nutritious foods that taste great. My greatest cooking triumph would have to collectively be my many successfully catered functions, from seaside lobster bakes to garden dinner parties.
My cooking tragedies
I tend to forget the 'misses' as soon as they occur!

Tex-Mex Quinoa Salad
I made this for a work picnic and it had turned to absolute mush by the time we all enjoyed it. This is NOT something that keeps well in the fridge. I'm a good cook, so it was incredibly embarrassing. One person said it tasted like mushy oatmeal.

Curried Quinoa Salad with Mango
Very good! I love savory recipes that include fruit. I used Inca Red Quinoa and that added a very nice burgundy color to the yellow mango and green onion. I would also cut back a bit on the green onion. Delicious, protein-rich side dish.

Quinoa and Black Beans
This is a fantastic recipe - I've made it many times. I add shrimp, pineapple, and a few tablespoons of lime juice -- excellent variation on the original.
