I used to work in a Chicago Bohemian bakery and learned the way bakery, breads and cakes should taste and what techniques were used. Also did cake decorating for all occasions. Now, after many years, I finally have my kitchen set up with all the hardware needed to cook and bake to my delight.
It is my biggest love.
My favorite things to cook
Cheese cakes, Polish German and Bohemian baking, stews, casseroles, smoked meats and breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Old fashioned (retro) proven "home-cookin'" easy recipes.
My cooking triumphs
A huge multi-layer decorated cake for a 50th wedding anniversary banquet. We didn't have air conditioning at the time and the kitchen temps were over 90 degrees.
Also, two years ago, found I have type II diabetes and high cholesterol. Since then learned much and have been able to make my eating/exercise habits suit my consumption of all my favorites without changing any ingredients, thus saving the goodness of everyday recipes.
Exercise and portion control is the secret. I have gotten all my "readings" to normal.
My cooking tragedies
Bohemian Houska- in my early baking days - turned out like a rock. Also made some hockey-puck biscuits.
Also trying to make things with artificial sweeteners - yuuuuuuk!
