I'm simply me :) I'm forever baking, knitting, crochetting, and chasing after my "kids" (two dogs, Ollie, a dachsund/poodle mix, and Melody, a miniature schnauzer pup) all over the place, and nerding it up with Charlie, my significant other. I'm willing to try cooking or baking anything at least once and enjoy a good skipping through Wal Mart at two in the morning. Full time college student that doesn't party. I'm quite the nerd and I LOVE it!
My favorite things to cook
Desserts definately! Every weekend I try something new. I also like experimenting with slow cooker recipes (baked a cake in one once, it was interesting) and I'll pan-fry anything you'll let me. I also enjoy grilling various foods, mostly brats and chicken. Absolute favorites to bake: blueberry cakes and chocolate chip cookies. I always get raves about them and they're gone within a matter of minutes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
For as long as I can remember my grandmother Me-Mommy has been baking cookies of every sort. She's known as the 'Cookie-Lady' at her church, which I find humorous. So many recipes have been passed down through the generations. I have several from my great-grandmother, who's currently 104 and still kicking. Every Christmas we all get together and just cook and bake any and everything! My other grandmother, Mam-Maw, who's been making the world's best french toast forever, has taught me sooo many tips and tricks when it comes to country cooking. I've never seen or tasted fried chicken that's better than hers.
My cooking triumphs
Any time my boyfriend's family has a get together of any sort I take a blueberry cake with me, and it's gone within five minutes. I feel like I'm on top of the world. They're always asking me if I'm bringing one the next time and the answer is always yes! Every weekend when I come home I try some new dessert, usually cookies or small cakes, and take them back to my roommates who are always excited to se what I've come up with.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 14 I didn't know how to boil water. My mom had asked me to make dinner one night, something simple, so I tried mac'n'cheese and fish sticks. I burnt the fish sticks and half of the noodles to the pan. I cried so hard, because all the women in my family are amazing cooks, and I was afraid they would all disown me. There's always hope though! People ask me now how long I've been cooking and if I've always been like this and then I tell them the fish stick story.
