About this Cook
I am a wife, mother and now a grandmother. I have lived on my husbands' family farm for over 40 years and love the country way of life, though I do love to visit big cities and traveling. I am a southern cook and feel most comfortable in the kitchen.
My favorite things to cook
Make ahead dishes for the freezer, baking, slow cooking, desserts, salads and it's fun trying gourmet recipes from time to time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every New Year starting the year off with luck by fixing the southern tradition of blackeyed peas, ham (or hog gowls), collard (or mustard) greens and cornbread. Also look forward to the traditional Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings and Christmas dinner with family and/or friends.
My cooking triumphs
I've had a few of those.....
My cooking tragedies
And, plenty of these....!

Beautiful Salad
I have made this several times and always with excellent results using the different dressings: Balsamic, Raspberry, Brianna Blush, etc. I think it all comes down to personal taste. The only difference I make to the recipe is to slice up sweet navel oranges when they are in season (I'm from Florida!!). Last time I fixed this I also threw in some arugula into the mix. I get the usual "WOW, this looks great!" response every time I serve this to guest. Thanks soooo much WendyinTexas for submitting a simple, but delicious recipe...and healthy too!!!!

Slow Cooker Creamed Corn
Absolutely wonderful!! I used the combo package of white/yellow frozen corn. Only use 4 oz. of cream cheese and do not add the sugar. Thanks Dotte for submitting such a tasty way of fixing corn that brings compliments every time AND is sooo easy to prepare.

Yummy Sweet Potato Casserole
I rated this 5 stars even though I altered it because I'm sure it would rate this fixed as is. I had 10 small to medium size sweet potatoes and wanted to fix some casseroles to freeze, so here's what I did: baked the sweet potatoes, scooped out insides, added 2 eggs, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 stick melted butter, 1/2 cup evaporated milk, 2 t. vanilla and sprinkling of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. I doubled the topping that I also added a sprinkling of cinnamon. The result: YUM!!!! Thanks Tina for a wonderful basic recipe that I could build on.
