I'm a full time mother of 3, been cooking since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I love to try new things and some of my best dishes were made up as I went along.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a cookie fanatic! I have dozens of cookie only recipe books and I can spend hours deciding what cookies to bake for friends and family. I also love to make bread, to me nothing is more pleasurable than the art of crafting homemade bread and the smell as it bakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I was taught to cook by my wonderful mother and amazing aunt Loretta. My mom taught me the basics of cooking for a family, my aunt taught me the dying art of cooking for a crowd. She firmly believed if you were going to cook enough food for 4 people, you might just as well make enough to feed 40, 'cause you never knew who might come to dinner! Her idea of breakfast was a pound of bacon, a pound of sausage, a pound of ham steaks, a dozen fried eggs, a dozen scrambled eggs, 2 dozen biscuits, a loaf of toast, 2 pots of coffee, a big bowl of hot buttered gooseberries, and plenty of homemade jams and jellies. I don't remember anyone leaving hungry from her meals!
My cooking triumphs
I am a recent graduate from the Wilton school of cake decorating, and I am very proud to have accomplished this at last. My greatest moment in cooking was when my darling 8 year old daughter took her first bite of my newest dish at dinner and announced: "Mommy, you cook better than Emeril Live!" That show being one of her favorites.
My cooking tragedies
I am ashamed to admit it took me over 20 years to master the art of making biscuits. I turned out more that were like hockey pucks than biscuits than I care to remember, but I finally learned to make them like I remember my aunt's. I think she'd be proud of me.
